    Hi all,

Quick question on my configuration. Both a 2gig and 1gig memory part are listed on my configuration. Any idea why?

    Maybe you are getting 3GB's?

My guess is that you have a vestigial 1GB from the minimum requirement for ITM. However it doesn't look like you have ITM, but both UWB and WWAN antenna.

That's curious. You're not getting a delay for UWB? My original 7/11 order is getting sent out to 9/11!!

Your best bet is to call into Lenovo. FYI my order printout and what Lenovo had listed were two different things. I think the time to start really worrying about your RAM is when you receive your machine, and notice some memory missing. I'm not sure it's worth fixing your order right now, and getting booted to the back of an order line. When you get the machine you can always say hey what the heck I ordered 2GB and you only sent me one. In that case they could just send you the extra RAM. Kinda doubt you got bonus RAM but hey who knows.

baddog, thats what I was hoping for, however, my first ram order says that the 2gigs take up 2 dimms.

kebs, I've called Lenovo about 3 or 4 times already since my order has been placed - I'm pretty neurotic. All of my CSR's and one supervisor I spoke with guaranteed me that nothing would hold up my order and that there is no reason why it should not ship on time. They even told me that the plant my computer is shipping from would allow me to change addresses without pushing my order to the end of the line. I don't know what they are up to but if I don't receive at least 2 gigs, there will be hell to pay. I chose to pay them the extra money for the ram because I did not want to be bothered by the hassle of adding in ram on my own. Luckily, I purchased 3 year on site repair, so they can come to me to take care of it, since I never want to have to deal with shipping anything to or from this company again.

It's nothing. That extra 1GB RAM shows up on ever order invoice but never in the actual computer. It really is there for no reason. Trust me, every single person here who has posted their order invoice had that. Do a forum search if you don't believe me.

It really isn't a hassle. It's so simple, little kids could do it if you told them how. It's silly to be afraid of something just because you've never tried it.

I built a computer from scratch years ago, so it's not that I'm afraid of the process. I'm afraid of voiding my warranty, pulling off my keyboard, and then configuring the ram - not to mention purchasing compatible ram.

It does not look like a problem, you are at the minimum going to get your 2GB's if you get more fine and no they are not going to just throw a loose stick in the box, if it comes it will be installed. As someone said b/4 it is a residule from the default. And has been confirmed that it is normal, so sit back relax and wiat, don't pull your hair out sometimes it does not always grow back.

You gotta do what you gotta do, but honestly it is so very simple to do and it will absolutely not void your warranty. As a matter of fact you will go from a 1yr warranty (or extended if purchased) on the RAM to a lifetime warranty on the RAM. Almost every major RAM manufacturer provides a lifetime warranty.

Compatibility? It's almost impossible to get it wrong. Any 200-pin SODIMM 667mhz (PC2 5300 or PC2 5400) will be totally compatible. Pick from Corsair, Patriot, Kingston, OCZ, Geil, and many more. They all have the same micron chips with a lifetime warranty. Link in my sig for install video.

You don't have to pull off the keyboard, it's a bloody like one or two screw panel on the bottom of your laptop. Look at the RAM install and you'll see how easy it is. Do have a really small phillips head screwdriver.

In stallen's video, they remove the keyboard. Is it different on the t61p? Also, while we are talking about ram, how much is supported on a 32bit Vista OS with Santa Rosa chip? I have 2 gigs, but would consider upgrading to 3 or 4 if it's worth it. The other thing that concerns me is the high rate of defects in ram. One of the guides said that 40% of the ram he purchased needed to be returned.

This isn't a matter of laziness, it's more a concern of compatibility and reliability of the ram I will be purchasing.

If 40% is true then you have a 40% chance that the RAM you buy from Lenovo is faulty. You really don't think that Lenovo is putting these things through rigorous testing do you? Personally I think that 40% is an exaggerated estimation.

Memtest will rule out faulty RAM... link in my sig. IF it's faulty then send it back for a replacement.
