I have a T60 which has 1 memory stick of 512 Mb installed and I want to add another 1Gbte stick.

Will there be any problems installing a 1Gbte stick with the other 512 Mb stick still present ?

It shouldn't be a problem, though your memory will run only in single channel mode (as opposed to dual channel). That might effect long operations that use a *ton* of memory bandwidth (3D rendering anyone?), but truth be told you will probably get a significant boost in performance on your memory intensive apps regardless of which mode you are operating in.

You're fine as long as you use quality RAM.

Dual channel mode has at most a 10% improvement in memory b/w over single channel mode, so you are correct that the OP will probably never notice, expecially as he is operating in single channel at the moment....

Lol, this will likely make the CPU melt right through the laptop.

Which RAM would you suggest as quality RAM? What's the difference between "quality" and "non-quality" RAM?

    I have a 512 and a 1GB in my T60 and it's fine.

Stay away from Kingston ValueRAM, as Kingston makes a type of stick specifically for ThinkPads. Other brands, I don't know.
