I just droped the dime and ordered a X60! But because of the epp choices I went with the 17097HU . I would like to up the base RAM from 512 to 2 gigs,
    1. how many sitcks of ram will this puppy take?
    2. whats the "brand of choice" for a thinkpad x60?
    3. How much of a deal is it to crack the case and install it?

And one off topic question... do thinkpads come with OS disks? Im going to -try- and get SUSE 10.1 and xp playing nice on the same machine. So it would be nice to have a safety net incase i screw up the existing install.

ThinkPads don't come with OS disks. You can make your own set of recovery CDs or DVDs with the Rescue and Recovery software. For an X60 the set would probably consists of one CD and one DVD, assuming you have a DVD writer, otherwise you will need several CDs. Note that this function is disabled after you made one set of recovery media. You can, however, make additional copies of those CDs or DVDs.

Cool thanks for the input guys!

If anyone has any personal experience with a x60 and different RAM manufacturers I would love to hear them. Right now Im looking at droping 250ish on the kingston 1 gigers from newegg(2 of them partnumber KTL-TP667/1G).

Crucial is also selling a 2GB kit for $250. Do a product search for "ThinkPad X60" to get a listing of RAM modules. For some reason the dropdown menu in the Crucial Memory Advisor Tool doesn't list the X60. I like the lifetime warranty offered by Crucial.
