Hi, I am considering getting one of the T60 14.1''. The description on most of them says the maximum RAM is 3GB. It also says there are 2 slots for memory chips. Does this mean I can install non matching sticks (like 1GB and 2GB, if there will be a 2GB stick available at some point)? If so, my plan is to buy a T60 with 512MB and then add 1GB right away - would this work? Please advise.

    Thanks!

Yep, it has two slots, you can install two non-identical sticks if you want to, and 2GB sticks are now quite cheap. I actually just picked up a 2GB Corsair module for $100 plus shipping to add to the single 1GB DIMM I originally ordered my T60 with. Works great so far! :D

Oh, the reason they list 3GB as the maximum RAM is because of a limitation on the Napa platform as well as all previous platforms. If you were to install 4GB it would work but any OS you use would only be able to use between 3.25GB and 3.5 of that 4GB. Not really worth it for the cost of two 2GB sticks, although I believe Santa Rosa based notebooks do not have this limitation.

Well, technically 4GB's is the max for the motherboard, but it will only be able to use 3.25-3.5 GB's of it. For 3GB's all of it is usable.

So, in a way they are both right. :D
