I have 512MB PC2700 module installed in my Thinkpad T42. I installed a 1024MB PC3200 memory module in the empty memory slot. When I boot the computer, it starts beeping. According to this it means "Memory problem: bad DIMM or bad DIMM slot". Could it be because my laptop doesn't support PC3200 memory and the module I have isn't downwards compatible to PC2700?
I removed the 512MB module and put the 1GB module in the first memory slot but it didn't work that way either.

Can you provide more details about the 1 GB module? Manufacturer, etc.?
