I posted this article in two threads that didn't highlight the issue. It's here http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=55124

So, I'm making my case for an early launch of Merom. As the basis for that, referencing this article: http://www.tgdaily.com/2006/04/19/intel_to_ship_core_inq3_2006/
Bottom line is we could see Meroms much sooner than the announced time lines. My two cents.

The question is:
64 bit.... does it really matter at this point in time?
It's going to be a long while before software appplications catch up to hardware potential. -
NICE JOB!! I would give you a rep except you disabled it. This news is a godsend to me because I need a 64 bit laptop. I'm planning to keep my laptop for 4 years so this is PERFECT. THANK YOU SO MUCH!!

Thanks for the cudos, but if it doesn't happen then I'll bask in your laudits until Q3...and if the Merom launches NOT...in that time frame I'm sure it's the boys and girls within Intel scrambling BIG-Time...INTC is under a huge pressure to perform...they've invested in 65 nanometer fabs and have stated their yields are acceptable; their pathway quanta is 45 nm...
you don't see AMD stating anything competively that has impressed the buyers...except the server market....
...and the notebooks desktops will still have Intel? I can understand notebooks having Intel...power...
...and the Xeon CPU equipped products...65 nmeters circuits and next year 45nm...say you have 25, 50, banks of these blade servers at "how-much/kwh" and then life becomes clearer. -
Nevermind...your article is a bit outdated. That's an April article. The may article says it's out in August. http://www.reghardware.co.uk/2006/05/08/intel_core_2_brand/

well i just bought a T60 with duo core and i plan to keep it for at least 4 years...will this 64 bit business be a problem for me?

I dont know everyone is so surprised by the fact that intel had a slump in the first quarter. The same has been every pre tax season and every time intel announces a new chipset. People wait.......

If I am correct, the T60 can be upgrade to merom, that is upgrading it yourself.

Merom coming out early...as in June/July?
