I just recently "down graded" from Vista back to XP Pro 32-bit and all of my programs and software are installed and working perfectly fine except for the microphone. I am 99% sure it is a software issue because the microphone worked perfectly fine before I "down graded" and stopped working after. I have downloaded various drivers from the Lenovo website per IBM Software Tech support but windows just won't recognize a mic as being connected. When I hit up the speech in the control panel there isn't even a "Speech recognition" tab anywhere.

Lenovo suggested I send it in but I can't really be without this machine for a week while they try and fix such a small problem but at the same time I use the mic for calls with skype. I was wondering if anyone had heard of this problem before and knew of a fix. I know troubleshooting on the software side is nearly impossible but I am trying everything I can short of a complete clean-install for a simple mic...

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

i am having the same issue where i had vista and it worked fine and downgraded to xp to see if there was a performance increase and the integrated mic does not work anymore.

i am going to try and un-installing the audio driver and reinstalling it to see if i can get it to work.

I tried that but I didn't have any luck. I am trying to find an older version of the audio driver because the driver installed right now was released on Jan. 21 '08 and I think it could be a little buggy on XP.

Spent a good part of the day backing up all my data, wiping the hard drive, and re-installing the OS only to find the mic still not working. Hopefully you have better luck than I did but I might end up just "upgrading" this thing back to Vista Ultimate.

same thing for me when i did my clean install last night. i guess at the end of the day if i cannot fix it i will just buy myself a logitech webcam that has a built in mic that will fix the problem because my system does not have a built in webcam.

maybe i will find a driver out there that is specifically for the microphone but after having vista ultimate and downgrading to xp pro again i dont think I will go back to vista because xp to me is so much faster and the internet connections to wireless are much better.

i just found this online and you might want to try the older driver to see if it works. i am goign to try it when i get home to check.
