    Hey guys,

I see a great deal at microcenter for a thinkpad x230 for $999 but I'm not sure if it has the IPS panel. I read somewhere on a review that the default lcd screen on the x230 is a TN panel but only the upgrade gets you the IPS panel.

I do see this thinkpad listed with a 12.5" HD screen but on lenovo.com the upgraded panels for an additional $50 shows 12.5" PREMIUM HD screen.

So does this mean that these x230s have no IPS panels? Anyone pick one up from Microcenter? Thanks.

I don't think $999 is that great of deal. The same machine on Lenovo's web site with the IPS LCD is selling for a little over $900 and if you can wait for good coupons, you may be able to do even better.

I don't know if the MicroCenter X230 has the IPS, but the only way to find out for sure is get the serial number, though I suppose one could call and ask.

Ok thanks. I guess my perspective is its a great deal (if it is an IPS panel) because of the instant gratification plus an easier return process. I'll have to check.

Just picked up an X230 with IPS on the outlet "New" for ~$600 before tax. Good time to shop if you are still after one!

If it says "flexview" in the "about computer" it's an IPS, no?

(I sold my X230 last week on eBay - have a MBP Retina now :p). Grew tired of 1366. Loving me some retina!

Edit: nevermind, I see that you haven't purchased it yet. I seriously doubt it has IPS...and as has been pointed out, $999 isn't a good price. I sold mine for $800 and that included a 256gb Samsung 840 Pro SSD. The machine had some wear and cracks from the previous owner though, so I was happy to offload it at that price.

Did you get the 13" or 15" macbook pro? I know this is a lenovo forum but I am actually looking at the 13" macbook pro retina as well.

Also have you tried connecting two external displays to the macbook pro? I want to be able to drive my 27" thunderbolt display and my epson projector in dual monitor mode. Do you think it can handle that and play 1080p movies?

Not to derail, but I got the top of the line 15" $2799 version. It's fully loaded and will last me many years. The 13" was tempting, but with only HD4000 graphics I was out. I got the best one out there because the retina graphics need a lot of oomph to properly drive. The thinness of the 15" makes it feel much smaller than it is. The 13" is neat, but without dedicated graphics, I wasn't interested.

You can connect up to three displays to the 15". Don't know about 13", but I'd highly doubt it.
