Anyone have any tips for disassembling the Mini Dock Plus Series 3? I have two and want to have them keyed the same. I gave it a shot and can't figure out how to get it apart!

    Thanks.

Keyed? What do you mean by "keyed"?

keyed alike = both docks use the same key on the locking mechanism

    That's it exactly.

Each has a conventional barrel lock core. If I can open one of the docks, I can remove the core and bring it to a locksmith with a key from the other dock and they can make the same key work with both.

Aren't those keys embedded into the docks? ie, you yank out the lock, you break the dock/lock?

I thought Lenovo intentionally put different locks into those to keep them varied to minimize the likelihood that one would have a key to multiple docks...

I did some checking. If you lose a key to your dock, you got the option to replace the key with the same 2. When you order, the system will actually verify the serial number of your dock before you can actually order the particular key's coded number (you buy keys based on the code of your original keys). So as far as I can tell, the docking stations are mated to specific locks, and it doesn't seem like you're supposed to be able to change the locks themselves.

I suspect if you forcefully swap the lock, seems you'd be voiding support/warranty for it, assuming you can even find a source for a second identical lock, too...

No, the lock is easily removable once the dock is apart. It will either have a retaining ring or a nut, it doesn't have to be forced. A locksmith can easily rekey it once the lock is removed. I am willing to risk the warranty.

I still need to figure out how the case comes apart!
