Hi, I am new to this forum.
One of the reasons why I decided to buy a T61 (which arrived yesterday) was the keyboard. I have had my X40 for the last 3 years and am very happy with the keyboard.
On my new T61, the "o" key (as in "Oscar") sometimes does not register. I can overcome the problem by typing harder whenever typing the letter "o"; but it is annoying that I have to type differently. I actually retyped the letter "o" twice already when composing this message up to this point.
I want to find out whether the problem is only on my T61, or it is a problem for some of you as well. Try typing the "o" key 100 times with "normal" strength on a word processor (this is not a plank joke and I don't have time for a joke. It took me 5 minutes to register as a member, and 10 minutes to write this message) and see whether the "o" key is registered 100%.
I also noticed that there is a difference in the typing sound between the "o" key and other keys on the keyboard. There is no difference between hitting the "o" key and other keys, but there is a noticeable difference when RELEASING the "o" key after it is hit (relative to releasing other keys).
I want to find out how prevalent the problem is before I call Lenovo to repair my keyboard. I have several computers at home and this is the first time I have problem with a keyboard. Thanks for whoever out there who take this one-minute test to help me decide.

Call lenovo. They will probably just send you a new keyboard.

I've been typing with my T61 for a week and have not encountered any problem with a stuck "O" or any other letter.
You should definitely call Lenovo. Cannot imagine they'd put up any resistance in replacing the keyboard given the problem you are experiencing. -
I have a T60p. The letter E on the original ALPS keyboard occasionally did not register. I finally called Lenovo and was redirected to IBM warranty service. Explained the problem and received a new keyboard the next day. Now works great.

Warranty repair. Any other questions?
-
any idea which manufacturer made your keyboard?
-
Thanks for your advice. I called tech support and they told me that I should receive the keyboard on Monday. After I replace the keyboard, I will report back the name of the manufacturer.

You could just have a look at these pictures and tell us now: http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?t=44310/']this%20thread%20over%20at%20thinkpads.com.RonS%20does%20a%20great%20comparison%20between%20the%203%20keyboard%20manufacturers.From%20what%20it%20seems,%20the%20newer%20Chicony%20made%20keyboards%20are%20not%20as%20bad%20as%20they%20use%20to%20be.%3Cbr%20/%3E%3Cbr%20/%3EAlso,%20people%20who%20are%20buying%20OEM%20aftermarket%20NMB%20keyboards%20[whether%20directly%20from%20IBM%20or%20somewhere%20else]%20should%20be%20aware%20of%20the%20Chicony%20keyboards%20being%20rebranded%20as%20NMB%20keyboards.%3Cbr%20/%3E%3Cbr%20/%3EMore%20about%20the%20rebranding%20

Sorry I dunno what happened to that link. It works, but its ugly and I can't seem to fix it.

I have a similar problem. The letter 't' works okay but it sometimes does not register when pressed from a certain angle. All the other keys are okay. I consulted the IBM service center in our place (I'm from the Philippines by the way) and they told me they won't fix or replace it since it is working anyway. What's irritating is that the staff I was talking to told me to just press harder when I'm typing to remedy the problem.
I'm thinking about looking for another service center or filing a complaint. -
Yeah definitely be a little more stern with them and ask to talk to a supervisor and sound angry and be pushy. Don't let them walk over you. Don't be rude or anything but don't take "no" for an answer.

My u (u as umbrella) key didn't work, then called Lenovo, they send me a whole new keyboard.

I had the same problem with the Z, returned it because was within the first 30 days
Minor defect on my T61 keyboard. How about yours?
