Does anyone know why the hinges on the 14", "T" series are different? The left side is approx 1/2 thick, the right is approx 1/4 inch thick. I've never seen this in a laptop before. It looks like someone was cutting coners. Has IBM always used this odd design for their 14" T?

The 15", T model has normal, matched hinges.

Hah, that's normal, no one's cutting corners. Maybe they needed more space for the wires or indicators in the 14"? I wouldn't stress too much about it.

Well, looking at the back of my laptop, I can tell you that the right hinge wouldn't be able to fit next to the battery if it were as thick as the left hinge. The only way to make it thicker would be to move the hinge closer to the edge of the latop, and it doesn't look like there would be enough structure left for a strong connection then.

So I'd say it was a decision motivated by necessity on the 14" T4x models.

I like that IBM considers the details. Each space is planned out for funtion and form. Can't say Im not still a bit worried that lenovo will screw things up...

Don't know why, but there must be a reason. I suggest you post this question in the general forums at www.thinkpads.com or call 1-800-IBM-SERV and ask them. Someone there in Atlanta should know the answer.
