    Hi!
I have a un IBM thinkPad T 60. When I press thinkVantage button during boot up, the Predesktop Area doesn't load. There's only "Missing operating system" message displayed.
I had before a message that I doesn’t understand but the computer copy on my external hard disk directory with name Preboot, MinNT et RRbackups.

Uh, oh. There is a special mbr which works with the Predesktop partition which contains your reinstall/recovery files. Good news is that you appear to have the files--the bad thing is that the MiniNT loader isn't being run by your access to the partition.

Frankly, if you didn't understand the error message--it is not worth trying to run you through the repair.

Needless to say, either the predesktop area has been nuked by changes in the bios settings or a change in hard drive/reinstall by someone who didn't want to bother with rebuilding the predesktop area or something which corrupted the partition setting and/or MBR. If you don't have hard copies of your recovery process--the disks which you were SUPPOSED to make when you first purchased a brand new laptop--you're done. Most technicians will not bother to rebuild the recovery onto the hard drive--many "technicians" don't know HOW to redo the predesktop/repair/reinstallation and recovery area.

Easiest thing for a non-technical person to do is to order recovery media from IBM or a preloaded replacement hard drive for your specific model of laptop. I don't use the recovery stuff on any brand of laptop as I know how to find and install drivers and dislike alot of the software. I don't miss it.

Another thing you can do if you really insist on having a one-click type of reinstallation/recovery is to PURCHASE True Image. It will generate a complete backup system on your laptop--as well as an image to restore your system on DVD. True Image is a fantastic program. BTW: Even with True Image you still need a good installation of your operating system to make the initial image.
