Awesome; thanks for the steps. I will take some time out to see how I get on.

To be more specific, the modified driver works in that it can function as an update to the old 320.18 modified drivers. I do not know about it's stability with Y410p.

I came up with a less invasive patch that does not require me to add a new code section. I made a generic patcher so that all patches are automated. I've patched v320.18 and v327.23 successfully. I have not tested these patched drivers on a live system.

I am making a full package that allows you to patch your driver, sign it for TESTSIGNING, and load it just as anatolymik's original. Hopefully this keeps the patch alive without someone having to support it.

PSA: Windows 8.1 WHQL Nvidia Drivers don't support 750M SLI. Looks like we will have to wait, or refrain from upgrading.

You mean W8.1 doesn't support any SLI with the 750m under stock Nvidia drivers?

So does this work or not? Can I use a GT650 Ultrabay on my Y510P GT750 system to SLI?

Yeah, but only on Windows 7/8 for now. 8.1 is not supported (yet) because the W8.1 Nvidia drivers dont have ultrabay support yet, and you should use EmberV's driver mod.

I thought it was more of a hardware issue as the laptop would not boot with the GT650?

The laptop will not boot with the 650M if you have Lenovo's BIOS, because that card is blacklisted. However, with Svl7's BIOS mod (pm me and i'll send it to you) you can use the GT650M as a physX card. With Svl7's BIOS + Anatolymik/EmberV's patch, you can sli the 650 (GN35/36) with your 750 or 755.

Hi Jobine. Can you confirm that the 650m could work with 750m in Y410p with the modded BIOS and nvidia driver? Have you received the ultrabay card?
If it indeed work out, I will get one ASAP. Thanks for the information.

I haven't ordered it yet. I might order it this weekend. I'm just trying to find a decent seller that could ship to Canada. So far i have found only one, but i don't know if i should trust it.

In China, taobao sellers offer gn36(gt650m) with less than 100 us dollars. You could give it a try if they can send to Canada.

Well the cheapest price I found on Taobao for GN36 is about US$88.40 + local shipping US$4.10 + Taobao agent fee US$9.25 (10% fee) + maybe US$22 EMS to Canada so about $120 for a GN36.

Well, i found a GN36 from an american retailer for 120$+24$ shipping to canada (9-15 business days). I would pick an american retailer over a chinese one anyday.

The american Retailer is Pinnacle Micro. They seem legit.

Another option is to buy the fabled GT750M4 from Taobao, but at 300$ my wallet is starting to cringe, remember that i'm a college student on a budget, if i had the extra cash i would have not bought a Y410p in the first place :p

How to enable tesigning mode permantently in Windows 8(.1):

    1. Open command prompt as admin
    2. Type:
    bcdedit -set loadoptions DDISABLE_INTEGRITY_CHECKS
    bcdedit -set TESTSIGNING ON

There, now you have persistent testsigning. To remove it, run these commands (as admin):

    bcdedit /deletevalue loadoptions
    bcdedit -set TESTSIGNING OFF

I contacted a 650M seller on Ebay (mikstl7) and asked if he could test the patch for us:

Hello. I am Jobine from notebookreview forums.

We have worked on a special patch that allows 650M ultrabays to run on 750M laptops, but we need a tester.

    To do so, first:
    - Install the 327.23 driver from Nvidia
    - Enable TESTSIGNING mode in Windows with this command (as admin):
    - Bcdedit.exe -set TESTSIGNING ON
    - Reboot, then download and install the patch:
    (DifferentSLI 327.23 x64)
    - Reboot, pop in the 650M and go to the Nvidia Control Panel to enable SLI.

Please do us Y series owners a huge favor by testing this. See this thread for more information:

Y 15'' Removable graphics do not fit in the Y 14'' laptops. Hence there is still a reason to SLI a 650M, in the case of a Y4 owner.

So there are 6 GPU models Lenovo has running about right now. Only 1 of their ultrabay counterparts is offered on their site.

This thread still has quite a bit of purpose good sir.

    GN36 - GT650M5 - Availible on Ebay/Internet (rather common)
    GN35 - GT650M4 - Availible on Ebay/Internet (rather uncommon)
    GT750M5 - Availible on Lenovo.com for USD 230$
GT750M4 - Availible if importing from China (expensive)
GT755M5 - Availible if you order a model with 755M SLI only.
GT755M4 - Possibly Availible in Malaysia, however this is a rumor.

Good find! Assuming he didn't do any hardware of BIOS modifications, looks like the 750m cards are interchangable between the Y410 and Y510, as it should be. I seriously think it was something wrong with the card emberv got.

R.I.P your money. Try pawning it on ebay (could go for 50$ easy), and instead of writing "defective", write "UNTESTED, NO REFUNDS".

And let's take this as a lesson that we shall never buy off TaoBao.

So you plan on caddying or getting a 750M5 off Lenovo (fortunately Lenovo has a return policy :D)

    Some engrish translation (from Google):

Since the words out of the 750M, 650M pluggable cards original price all the way down. Unfortunately, did not seem to Y400 accessories in the domestic market, Taobao price is very high. So many of my friends have chosen is the GN36 Y500 right? About GN36 converted to Y400 tutorials on the Internet has a very detailed introduction, I also successfully installed according to the tutorial. But the online tutorial describes the plastic buckle removed, I tried removing the snap graphics found inside the machine shake very obvious, it will snap back to re-install, then there is not easy to insert graphics problems, do random a little change. Then run perfectly identified. BRIEF DESCRIPTION

This is the online tutorial introduces the use of clips remove

Finally, the case of the installation of plastic buckle, the effect of the notebook graphics card into the four directions

You can clearly see, the gap is large, this is because I had some time in the processing of the panel is fully inserted into the closed state according to measurement, resulting in the panel partially cut too much. I made the original intention of this post is to remind friends ready to start, if you intend to use plastic buckle, cutting the panel when we must leave enough attention to the location.

Incidentally, I have attached a few pictures inside the open graphics

Metal fasteners great fan and heat pipe cooling scales only for the graphics card services should be sufficient. The only drawback is that the fan power cable firmly against the heat pipe, do not know whether the long-term high-temperature state will accelerate aging.

Y400 has terrible display and lacks Optimus.

So you void your warranty by upgrading the display and you are almost forced to SLI since this laptop does not support Optimus even in single-GPU config.

Also the Y400 has Msata instead of M.2

The Y400 uses a much cheaper 1366:768 display with 270:1 contrast ratio while the Y410p uses a 1600x900 panel with 400:1 contrast ratio.

Yep, it should be fine (assuming it isn't something dumb like the BIOS won't support that resolution or something, doubt it though). You can use the matte panel I used when I swapped my screen or use one listed from the y410p's HMM.

Flashing the custom bios is recommended but not mandatory. Flashing the 2x vbios patch on Lenovos Y410p/510p drivers page is required to get the ultrabay 750m in windows 8.1.

I recently bought a y500 with gt 750m equipped with SLI on ebay, but the seller did not include the ultrabay drive. I'm not terribly upset because I only spent 629 plus 50 for the upgraded power supply (170W). Before realizing there was a comparability issue, I purchased a 650 ultrabay card from Amazon. The card should arrive in the mail in a day or two. Since it's amazon, I have the option to return the card, then I could just by the 750 directly from lenovo (yes, I understand I might be waiting until Christmas if I go that route.)

My question is, would it help you guys if I open the 650 card and try your mix and match work around? I'm fully updated to 8.1 and I could likely try your fix and then still return the 650 card and get the correct one from Lenovo. Do you think there would be a noticeable difference in performance with the overclocked 750 vs the 650, assuming that I can get the work around to actually function as intended? Would it be helpful for someone to at least try the fix so you know definitively if it worked our not? If one of you replies I'll do my best to accommodate.

Give it a shot, for curiosity's sake :p. Seriously though, it should work if the Y410 hasn't somehow been gimped to disable the SLI functionality (since I've heard people say they couldn't get theirs to work when popping in a 750m card).

Well, Varroa has reported that the 750 he bought for his Y510p does not seem to work, which is quite strange, though i think it has something to do with the Intel chip being enabled.

There are a few us over on the Lenovo support forums trying to figure this out and it seems to be a bios issue. My hypothesis is the new card has the new Windows 8.1 video bios (and the original one doesn't). Others believe the since our laptops only came with 1 card the bios was flashed on the motherboard to only support one card.

The only strange thing I can find is Furmark shows only one card in the menu but when you run it it shows 2 cards (not in SLI) and the first one doesn't report and temps or speeds.
