Just got it from Lenovo.
The screen is now symmetrical, good thing.
But the screen size is samller than my T510's. I wish it was larger. Anybody knows why it is smaller?
Seems there are two speakers on the either side of the keyboard. Somehow, I dont like. This design makes it like a "lower-level" multimedia system. These small pores for the speaker might collect dust over time.
What do you think?
The machine seems thinker than T500. Dont like it. But it looks more sturdy, which is good.
Thanks.

The T510 screen has 16:9 aspect ratio.
The two speakers on the two sides of the keyboard: right, the small pores do collect tiny dust particles!(And you can't wipe the dust away easily. I don't like this fact myself.) Well, at least the speakers look a bit nicer than two pieces of plain plastics, IMHO.
Update us regarding whether you exprience any palmrest cracking/squeaking (when you press your palms down to type). -

Don't feel anything like that. Quite solid. Good improvement!
About the thinkness of my new T510.
Somehow I dont like it.
Once I bought a L ThinkPad, but I returned it. It is nowhere near T standards.
However, this new T510 somewhat looks like that L Thinkpad: thinker, two speakers on either side, etc.
I feel Thinkpad is drifting away from the legendary thinkpads. -
The T510 is a 16:9 Thinkpad with a 15.6" screen instead of a 15.4" 16:10 screen that the T500 has. It's wider, but not as tall.
Personally, I think the speakers look a lot, lot nicer than the T500 speakers panel, which are basically just holes drilled into the plastic chassis.
Yes, the T510 is thicker than the T500. This is even more apparent because the screen half isn't as thick as the T500's screen, so the chassis appears a lot thicker than the T500's. -
The speakers are okay, this design is first trialled on the T400s.
The chassis is thicker, since it uses the ultrabay enhanced bay rather than the ultrabay slim bay. Basically, Lenovo fused the T500 with a R500 and made them into the T510. I guess it would make sense in the W510 since it uses better GPU and CPU, which produces more heat.
But given that the T510 uses exactly the same component as the T410, they are priced similarly i am not sure if i buy into this whole design and marketing strategy.
In my opinion the T510 is nothing more than a R510. -
MidnightSun and "lead org", you are certainly more authoritative in judging the T510.
I DO feel T Thinkpad is drifting away from the orignial legendary T thinkpads.
>>the screen half isn't as thick as the T500's screen
What is screen half? What do you mean by this.
Thanks. -
Lenovo is forced to cut corners, by market conditions and by its own business goals. Lenovo is just one of the many PC suppliers and, unless it manages to distinguish itself in some unique, indisputable area, it will continue to churn out "commodity" products.
A ThinkPad T43p would cost over $3800 back then. A T510 can be had for about $1200 today, with much better processor and so on (but lousy display). More affordable, but quality goes down.
There is no passionate vision at Lenovo. Take the ThinkPad X tablets: they are great products, yet remain items in a big catalog! Contrast that situation with the way Apple introduced the iPad and the exciting level of market response to the iPad. -
when talking about the screen half, Midnightsun is referring to the screen case of the T510 is thinner than of the T500. But from memory they are about the same.

If you bought the thinkpad (or any laptop) hoping for good speakers, you are severely disillusioned.

Guys, thanks for echoing to my sesntiment.
Best.
Mixed feelings about my new T510
