If i bought a X61 without mobile broadband, can I buy a mobile broadband module and install it after that?

    Thanks

I would say you can. The only question is whether Lenovo will SELL the module aftermarket.

It's always easier to have it pre-installed. The only time I woulodn't have gadgets pre-installed is when 4GB of RAM is $1500.

Keep in mind that there are a few Mobile Broadband RESELLERS (e.g., third-party companies that sell discounted service through Sprint, Verizon, AT&T, et al) who offer better prices, but these companies do NOT allow you to use any device but the one they supply.

My theory is that they have a bulk subscription through Sprint, Verizon, AT&T, etc..., which gives them the discounted price, but it also pre-registers the devices.

The mobile broadband resellers seem to be the better deal, since you can save about $20/month over the direct providers, but just keep in mind that any aircard you already own won't work.

As with all things it depends:

    1. If you have turbo memory on your laptop if you do the answer is probably no since you cannot configure a unit with turbo memory and mobile broadband.

    2. As mentioned above Lenovo has to be willing to sell you a card aftermarket.

    3. All the reviews I have read have stated that the speed is better with the aftermarket cards especially with the Sprint RevA cards out on the market now, but your YMMV.

I have a T60 and purchased the embedded broadband card from IBM parts. In my case, I had an available internal slot for the card. Since I have ATT broadband, I had to add a sim card holder, also available from IBM parts, together with the wan antenna. If it's available for your model, they'll sell it to you.

The AT&T internal wan card uses one antenna which is mounted on the side of the LCD lid. The lid of the T60 has a piece of plastic which is removed when inserting the antenna.
