Hey there,
Is it possible? I work at a place that has a bunch of different models. I had the choice of a T410s, T510, T500 or T61p. For various reasons I stuck with the T61p, it had the MOST of what I wanted, however the backlight is pathetic compared to the LED backlighting of the 510 and 410........ I have access to LOTS of lenovo parts, I just have to make a phone call...... so I've googled and searched around but can't find anything that breaks it down real easy.. any advice?
Thanks!

No, I don't believe it's doable due to the different screen sizes (aspect ratio) and backlight connectors. Since they never made a T61p with LED backlight, I doubt you will be able to do it easily (you might be able to do it with heavy modding).

while the screen size of the panel between T61p 15.4 inch and 14.1 inch widescreen are the same size as the T400 and T500, the cable connectors are not the same between CCFL and LED.
In short, this is not doable unless you do significant modification that no other person has done yet. -
if your T61p is a 15.4" widescreen then you might just need the display, LVDS cable, and LED board from a T500. i would be surprised if the system planar socket of the LVDS cable is different but without both systems in front of me to compare parts, i can only make an educated guess. the T500 is built VERY similarly to the 15.4" T61p but the small changes could add up to this being impossible.
since you have access to both systems at work, you have everything you need to answer this one for yourself. all you need is a #1 JIS phillips screwdriver and something sharp to remove the screw caps. start by removing the keyboards and comparing the LVDS sockets since that's likely the crux of the project.
my suggestion, however, would be to trade your T61p for a T500 and enjoy the upgrade. even though i prefer nvidia over ATI, i would take a T500 given the choice (assuming it's WUXGA).
welcome to the forum, btw. -
yeah well, the choice is either this t61p with 1680 x 1050
a t500 with 1200xwhatever
a t510 with 1366x760
or a 410s with 1440x900
I want an ssd drive, which we have lots of intel gen II 80 gb ones, none of them will fit in the 410 and my boss isnt keen on spending 300 on a 1.8 inch drive.
The 510 besides being lower resolution just doesn't feel nice to me. It came with a "stuck key" that isnt really stuck and the right hand speaker is garbage. I'm not a fan of lenovos build quality feeling lower.
I've had the 500 for a year now and I'm just tired of that lame resolution. If I could convince the boss to buy a 15.4 with high resolution and a led backlight I'd be in heaven however I'm not there just yet -
you can put the SSD into the T410s ultrabay using a ultrabay hdd adapter.
Mod a t61p to have LED backlighting..
