Which models have 1920x1080 matte screens plus a trackpoint?

I am addicted to the freakin' red dot and would like a higher resolution screen than the standard 1366x768 screen.

You mean "old school" trackpoint, or just any trackpoint?

    Old school: T510, 520, 530 and W510, 520, 530 were available with FHD panels.

Yeah, there are a couple in the current lineup, but they all have the lame integrated TrackPoint... x240, t440s/p, t/w540, Helix, Yoga, etc.

Does the integrated trackpoint really suck? Should I just abandon this feature on my next laptop and succumb to the use of a trackpad?

No - there are many different opinions on the new TrackPad - you should try it out yourself before just abandon the TrackPoint. For me, with the newsest drivers, its a much better experince than the old dedicated buttons.

    Agreed 101%.

No matter on what side of the fence one is regarding this particular issue, the change in design is drastic enough to require in-person testing and decision...

How could it be ? Drivers are just adjusting the size of the virtual buttons. Which is ok then. Drivers don't have anything with the force needed to press the monstrous square button. That's the main problem of the new Trackpoint experience. And don't forget the loud click noise.

. I just tried a Thinkpad at Microcenter. I am not sure i can get use to that giant touchpad "button" that moves when you click it.

I chatted with Dell and they said that they no longer carry any models with a track point.

HP said they only carry it on the 850 and 1040 (14 inch) . I priced out 850. $1200 for a basic machine. I my need to rethink things, although I have to say using touchpad on my T500 really sucks. It works fine it's just the ergonomics of a touchpad are horrible.

I'd say that you should call them back and speak to someone who knows what they're talking about...depending on what screen size you're interested in, there are several options available, E7440 likely being the most palatable one...which is available with an optional FHD panel, and most certainly sports a trackpoint...

I have a T440s which was given to my by my workplace. And a T530 FHD at home. Since I did not buy the T440s and I dont have to justify my purchase, let me tell you that the integrated trackpoint sucks. I hate it. It doesn't feel the same, more like an afterthought they glued on there.

I've my fingers crossed that the trackpoint will make a comeback in the next gen.

Good to know but unfortunately there is no 15" or 17" version which is what I asked the rep for.

But wait there's more. If the Dell spec says Dual Pointing Backlit Keyboard does it mean it has a pointing stick? There's an E5540 that says this.

I'm not familiar with the way Dell does things, but at least with older HP biz machines, there was often a choice of either on the same model. Unfortunately, due to the lack of the cutouts for the pointing stick buttons on my 6530b, I can't just add that keyboard in - I would've needed that option from the factory.
