Replaced my fried 1858-CTO R52 mobo with an 1859-B7U used and tested mobo. It powers up but does not boot to bios. I put brand new ram in both slots....new cpu...still no boot to bios. Cooler fan fires up,dvd/cd drive fires up,usb ports work. I have carefully checked all cables and plug ins...everything looks fine. Thought I would ask for some help before tearing it all down again. Since it is an used mobo...does the bios need reflashing? Do jumpers need to be reset? IAny help is greatly appreciated.Thx!!!!

no....I just checked those connections...the two ribbons....one directly off the monitor and the one off the external monitor..both are in good. I can see the light on the external monitor start up and shut down...so guess I am having a problem to my monitor. What other connections should I check for the monitor besides the ribbons?

Check the backlighting. Shine a flashlight at the screen when you turn it on. If you can see something on the screen, then it's the back light. If not, then...

No go...it shuts down(lcd lights and external monitor light) in a matter of 3 second and two seconds respectively. Am thinking my "tested and working mobo" isn't as advertised!!!

sorry it is sometimes hard to understand what you are trying to say... what do you mean you see light on the external monitor? Is that an image on the monitor? or just the monitor coming on and then shutting off again?

Also, when you say the new Mobo is tested, who done the test? and what parameters did you test? Do you know whether the video is working before you got the motherboard?

Apart from ribbon i don't think there is anything else you could check.

If you had a dock, you could try to see whether video comes from the dock vga out.

When I say the light on the external monitor it is the dummy power light on the inside of the port. It definitely is video related. I bought this off from ebay from a laptop store with many sales and good ratings...so I just em'd them and asked exactly what "tested and working " meant in their world in relation to video and/or power. Of course I assumed all was working and tested...my error. My other question would be if it is video related...is replacing the chipset an option? This is getting to be a good learning experience in the laptop world, so I really don't mind sucking up a few extra bucks for the experience....something it looks like you are very well aware of!!

no you can't replace the GPU, especially given this is an intel integrated GPU that you have in the new mobo of yours.
