I have a T61 15.4" with integrated graphics and I have had a weird problem. Intermittently, my cursor will disappear and come back in a couple of seconds. It's very annoying. I'm also having a problem where my cursor changing icons. It seems to react slowly or not at all to changes in the cursor. For instance in this text box the cursor is the text edit icon, but outside of it it's the regular pointer. Going between text edit and cursor is slow. It doesn't happen constantly. Sometimes it will change instantly sometimes it will take a couple of seconds to change. It also happens when resizing windows. The resizing cursor will take seconds to change back to regular cursor. Does anyone have any experience with this or can point me in the right direction? I don't know if these two problems are connected, but I expect they are.
I also seem to have a weird problem where my mouse cursor is larger in my address bar in Firefox than it is on the Firefox page. So going from a page on Firefox to the address bar causes an enlargement in cursor size that it annoying because the tip jumps as the cursor jumps in size. It just so weird, it's annoying. It shrinks in size when it should it should instantly become an edit icon. It goes big cursor -> small cursor -> edit cursor. It's very weird and doesn't happen on my ASUS laptop.
I think I found what is causing it. It didn't happen up to the point until I installed DirectX 9c June 2007 release. That seems to have caused it. Not a big deal since it already has 9c, only an earlier release.
It wasn't DirectX 9c after all. It might be graphics drivers, I'm going to check.
It's something in the drivers because it happens after I install all of the drivers. Yup, I just uninstalled the graphics driver and it went away.
I'm going to try out the beta intel drivers and if that doesn't work, I guess it's back to vista for me.
I have a X3100 by the way.
Nope still happens with the intel beta drivers.

Ok so he's the weird thing. I was copying over Vista to format and the problem went away. I was just copying files. It seems whenever I copy files, the problem goes away, but as soon as I'm done copying files it happens again. OMG this is just so annoying and weird.

Did you check to see if your refresh rate is at 60?
btw I like how you made your own thread -
It was at 50 and I changed it to 60 anyway. I don't really think it'll solve my problem, but I'll try.
It seems like when an installer is running or I'm copying files, then I don't have the cursor image lag problem, only the cursor disappearing problem. Once the installer I'm using right now goes away, I'll try to see if changing from 50 to 60 hz fixes anything.
I also get weird graphical glitches. Nothing really bizarre like random dots or things like that. It's like a window doesn't refresh its elements sometimes. Also when I got to Lenovo.com and look at the driver page, it's a huge table with a thick border. But when I scroll up and down, parts of that ugly border appear and disappear as I scroll over them. It's kind of random.
Nope, going from 50 to 60 Hz didn't fix it. -
Have you checked your temps? How about running a virus, spyware scan?
Other then that I don't know, maybe some malware got in. -
I mean I was getting it right after a format so unless intel video drivers are infested, I don't think it's a virus. I don't think it's temps because it disappears completely when I uninstall by video drivers. I seriously think it's a problem with Intel's XP drivers. I hope it doesn't also happen in Vista. It didn't happen when I was in preinstalled Vista so maybe it'll work fine. If it doesn't... well then I'll try to call Lenovo. I'm pretty sure if I call Lenovo they wont be able to fix it. At that point I'd probably return it, bite the 15% restocking fee and get a T61 with the NVS140M.

I knew a mod was going to post something like that.
It does the exact same thing in Vista. How depressing. -
Anyhow, it does seem like an issue with Intel XP drivers if your mouse cursor is fine without those drivers installed.
If you can do it, try clean reinstalling Vista plus the Intel drivers and see if the mouse cursor issue shows up.
EDIT:
Posted this at the same time you said Vista didn't fix it. Oh well. -
I am not a mod, actually.

I have clean installed Vista and clean installed XP and I have problems on both. I really don't want to mess with Lenovo tech support on something like this though. It's very subtle and they'll probably be poking in the dark with a solution by replacing the graphics card and trying it again. I'm just not going to screw with it. I'm going to put it on ebay and buy a T61 15.4" with NVS140M. It wont have a hard drive or RAM so if anyone wants to buy it, it's up for grabs.
By the way, on both clean installs the problem immediately disappears as soon as I uninstall the graphics drivers.
Of course Lenovo tech support was completely stumped, but it's ok I'm returning it sans the restocking fee and bought the same machine with NVS140M. It's a great machine otherwise. -
I still think its a little odd that you are buying the exact same machine, but good luck to you.
