    :D

My biggest annoyances from the T60 were fixed, no more squeaks from the palmrest for one. One top of that the side panels above the palmrest area are now solid, no wiggle room. Man this thing is awesome, I might have to steal ti from my sister :p

Mine is similar to yours, except that I have T7700 and 100GB/7200RPM.
After I got it, I installed 4GB RAM. It is such a beauty now. Have put it in heavy use for a few days now and feel I already earned one back due to improved productivity and pleasant user experience. Go WinXP!

But what about the screen? How do you find it and what are you comparing it to?

We got a pile of T61 shipments with WSXGA+ at IBM in late June, and about 90% of the WSXGA+ sceens on the T61 were ascertained to be actaully defective in our lab. They were angrily sent back.

I guess screen quality depends on what someone is used to (the T60 widescreen screens were also not good)

Colors dont seem as vibrant as the IPS flexview, viewing angle is a bit limited vertically. Brightness levels are much higher, not as much sparkle on whites, and only on the highest backlight settings can you see any hint of leakage. Really nice screen. The warranty parts list says this was the LG panel.

To me it looked uneven brightness and bad viewing angles, very bad. Also harsh compared to the same resolution on the T60 4:3 screens, flexview or not.

I dont know what exact deviation from specs the lab found and I probably wouldn't understand it anyway lol.

These were obvious to the eyes, in ways i mentioned just above. Oh, there was also some light bleeding along the bottom too in many. Maybe it was a bad batch. The serial numbers were strictly sequential, so they were probably made altogether.

Sorry i dont know the technicalities or measurements our lab found.

Unless you're very technically inclined and educated in the optics and technology, you may not understand it either. It's technobabble, and the point is that our eyes weren't lying.

Dont be scared. Just send it back if it's not good. I'd like to hear some good reports about the WSXGA+ screen by someone who can compare it to another QUALITY lcd. I wasn't impressed with the T60 wsxga+ screen either. But I've heard someone I trust say their 14.1" T61 screen is ok. So at least that's encouraging.

Correction, i recall a couple of ppl liked their 15.4" LG wsxga+ screen on their t61. But i never ascertained what, if anything, they were comparing it to.

    >>Just send it back if it's not good.

it is easy to say. doing that is such a hassle. think about the time of reinstall by many, one or two weeks of system config....i wont do that unless the screen is obviously wrong.

thanks for your info regarding defects. i feel a bit more educated now. lol.

    Edit: mine is LG

I too can say I LOVE my t61

I didn't spend more than 10 mins in their version if vista, and that is including the 7 mins it took to boot up.

I swapped the HD with my own and put vista back on and I am cursing.

Beautiful LG screen too and quiet as hell (when not using the DVD/CD drive).

FYI there's an option in the BIOS to turn your CD drive to "silent" mode - presumably at a loss of speed. It's a dramatic difference. It should be the default IMHO.

Well, I can't really speak specifically to the quality of the 15.4" WSXGA's on the T61's, however I can comment on that same size and resolution of panel on my T60.

Overall, it's probably one of the best all-around LCD's I've seen on a notebook. Probably the closest I can compare it to was the panel on the MBP I used to have, which was quite good IMO except for the excessive amount of sparkle it had (second-gen MBP btw). The LG panel on my T60 has just about no sparkle and viewing angles are what I consider to be pretty good. I can't really complain about backlight leakage as there isn't much at all; uncalibrated white and black levels are quite good as well.

The previous three notebooks I owned up till this T60 have all had at least one major (meaning it distracted me a *ton*) flaw in a variety of areas. I'll list a couple details about them for comparison starting with the earliest one.

Dell e1705 (WUXGA, LG V1 panel *after* having the original Samsung replaced which was CRAP):
Backlight bleed and general uneveness, but what got me was a "crosshatching" pattern of very faint diagonal lines everywhere on the screen. Hated it for this reason.

    MBP 2nd-gen:
Good uniformity, overall it was pretty good except for major sparkle and grain. :(

    HP NC8430:
Pretty good uniformity, but atleast on the panel I received, the display just had a "dirty" look to it most noticeable by an odd pattern at the bottom of the screen.

With my current T60 I'm quite happy with the display. Sure, there are a few better panels out there, but they are very much not in the majority at the moment. The most important thing to me for my uses is that the LCD doesn't distract me from what I'm doing because of something that could be better about it, and atleast in the panel I received, I now have that. :)

I'm glad you are so pleased with it. I am getting mine tomorrow with any luck (ordered 6/28, shipped 7/08.. ten days, best I've seen I think on these forums) and I can't wait.
