At the moment, I'm at the library now and and AC Adapter is right next to me. I begin to notice it's making some time of crackling noise. Should I be more concerned about this?

I think its pretty normal for the AC Adaptor to make some noises (not the really loud ones), my AC adapter does make some squealing noises if you put your ear right next to it but still works fine after 5 years of service so I wouldn't be too worried about it.

If you only hear it when you're right next to it, there's no problem. See HP's Support Answer regarding this issue.

i had some experience with my asus/fujitsu adapter and i dont think it's the same as that described in the HP answer.

hear any hissing or humming, but the crackling was like what you'd get if you were using a lousy power cord extension. not the male-female extenders but this type with multiple outlets:
    dodgy chinese electrical accessories

it's that sound you hear in the movies when someone makes sparks with bare wires.

the adapter would be completely still on the desk, so it wasnt like i was disturbing a loose connection. it would start on it's own, go on for a while, and stop on it's own. it was a spare adapter i got 2nd hand cheap, so i thought no need to take risks, just use the original adaptor.

anyway, i'm not saying it was really that dangerous for sure. just that TS's situation could be more than just humming.

The electronics may normally make some whining noises but I would be somewhat worried by the noise you describe.

Is the PSU still under warranty or should you be looking for a spare?
