3A code usually refer to the M key.

Hmm well there's the M key problem :| something wrong with the keyboard do you think? or does it need a good clean?

Cleaning it won't fix the problem as such.

Either the M key is stuck or the keyboard control circuitry has gone bad. The only way to find out is to actually get a working thinkpad keyboard.

Hmmm, would it be possible that the plug isnt correctly plugged into the motherboard because I may have bumped it, as I have taken the entire key off and still get the error, and it booted fine before.

Try reseat the cabling, so you taken the M key off before?

Maybe try to take it off and make sure that the bubble cap is not stuck, and then reinstall the key cap on it.

Try a Linux Live CD. That should tell you if it's a software or hardware issue.
