    Hello Friends,

    I own LENOVO Y500 Series 47Q model
    with configuration:

    Core 2 duo 1.76 Ghz
    2 Gb Ram
    128 Mb Graphics card
    160 Gb Sata 5200 Rpm
    Using: XP-Prof. SP2

when I bought the laptop It was dramatically faster, But It seems very slow specialy at the time of startup. as I am developer I know few tricks to improve performance of the system, I implemented these tricks to improve my Laptop performance.

1: Defragment it after every 2 days, and Boot defragment it after every 6 days, use Diskeeper software for this.
2: increased my MFT size double then enough
3: Increased my Paging file Size double than enough
4: Use Nod 32, AV soft. which is ultralight
5: Regularly repair my registries by UniBlue reg. repair.
6: Keep my Free diskspace more than 30 - 40% all the time.
7: Stopped all non or less used programs by starting up at the time of booting.
8: Uniinstalled all non used softwares.
9: Keep my system file managed.
10: deleted all Temp. files and cookies regularly
11: My Laptop do not have any Trojan, or any kind of malware, I know that.

I perform some other tricks also to improve my performance.

But still I am feeling speed problems. Specially at the time of startup. I want very fast startup. Please tell me, is their any trick which I am lacking, to increase my speed? I want to add that I had installed XP arround 7-8 months ago, and had not formated my computer for long. But I do not want to formate it again, because I can not afford to put my 1-2 days in that process, because I have to take alot of backup for that, because My whole world is inside my laptop.

Looking for some help from you guys.

    Thanks and regards

Have you disabled unecessary Services? Services are usually a major culprit in slow boot up times.

What is your start up time by the way?

the startup speed can depend on how many drivers and apps that load up during a system boot-up. in this case, you might wanna check if there are a lot of programs that start with the system, especially firewall app or something alike. sometimes, a bad driver could deter a system startup. we can give you some suggestions and ideas, you have to get to know your system more in order to identify the core problems.

    good luck!

Hello thank you for all your replies.

Sorry I was not able to reply before, due to some busy schedule.
Well My restart time is 3.9 Min exact,

I had already disabled all my unimportant services and softwares.

I want to add that currently I around 100 applications are installed over my laptop right now from which around 10 app. start when my computer start. and all of them are very important for my computer or my work.

I also want to get some knowledge, as you guys are expert in this field, is formating is the only way of getting back the performance of system, as in our offices and for me personally, formating is quite head ache as we have to take hundreds of Gb backup, some times data goes even in TB.

So please suggest some other advanced technical way of increasing performance, if you guys want to know some more things then you can ask me.

    Thanks & Regards

Well, there you go. You have around 100 apps installed and around 10 to start with the system, I can't imagine it could run too fast.
Doing a clean install will help, but "clean" is the keyword here. If have to install all those apps again, your computer will probably not get much faster than its current state.
If your work depends on all those apps, then you may have to live with a slow system.

You may also want to check your hard drive for any bad sectors. This can cause general wonkiness.

Spinrite is a great utility for doing a complete read or read/write test on your entire drive.
