I've had it happen once in a while to many different notebooks. If it starts doing it regularly there might be a problem.

Under what conditions does this happen to you? Ex: just typing documents, gaming/heavy 3D rendering....

Thats strange. If this happened to me I would test all the hardware components one by one.

    1.) memtest memory
    2.) Scandisk/checkdisk the hardrive
3.) download program to monitor CPU and GPU temperature.

Once the hardware checks out you might want to make sure your drivers look ok.

When I had these symptoms on a desktop, it was related to a failing power supply. But as FireSnake pointed out, bad memory, HDD, or overheating CPU could be candidates.

Did you get a BSOD or similar or did it restart all of a sudden without doing anything? Also, when you logged back in, did Windows pop up a message saying the computer encountered a serious error and had to restart? If this was the only time it happened, I wouldn't worry about it too much.

my system has had some unexpected restarting as well.i got BSOD then restart then the windows popup message.i think its not due to hardware and i believe some certain drivers cause this.im using a clean ultimate version.
any idea how i can spot the cause of the problem?any place to view the exact windows report?

I think if you set your computer to not restart automatically when it crashes, you can see the stop code and google it.

The computer may also be shorting itself or improperly grounded. That can be an awful thing to find and fix. I doubt it would be that, but you may want to keep it in the back of your mind.

While the laptop is in standby (aka. sleep) mode (vs. hibernate mode) pressing the Fn key will awaken it.

Also, if the Power Manager is set to hibernate xx minutes after it has entered standby mode, the laptop will automagically awaken itself to go into hibernate mode all by its lonesome. This is perfectly normal operation and not some sort of freak aberration.

Besides that, check that the keyboard or any other input devices don't have the "Allow this device to bring the computer out of standby" option checked in the Device Manager.

No, the computer has already crashed--it just doesn't bother to alert the user why it crashed. :p

Yeah, and when you set it to not automatically restart, it'll stay at the blue screen so you can write down the error code.

Bring up System Properties via the Control Panel (or just press the Windows key + Pause key together to bring up System Properties directly) and select the Advanced tab, then select the Settings Button under the "Startup and Recovery" section and finally clear the check box option "Automatically restart" under the "System failure" section.

Yes. and now that you have set it to not restart, you can get the error code and search for the cause. Depending on the situation, it may also show a short message saying what happened, but it is very technical, so its better to google the stop code.

as you might have read in th previous posts,i used to have these crashes too.i dont know what i did all i know is i played with the BIOS and after that i received no more blue screens...
i recommend you first update it to the latest bios specified in the thread i have opened for it and then restore your bios defaults using f9.this might help.
