Great pics! I can see why Kevin thought the Thinklight was blinding. Was that the case for you too?

The Thinklight does shine more "outward" than on my previous ThinkPad. However, the LED backlit screen is so bright, it pretty much keeps the keyboard illuminated by itself. Turning on the Thinklight barely makes a difference in keyboard visibility.

Nope... the camera made it look horrible but I found it to be quite ok, it sure isn't blinding and doesn't distract you that much.

Nice to see you can get the Intel 5100 and purchase the 5300 cheaper 3rd party.

I wonder if you go with the Thinkpad network card if you also get the antenna?

thank you for all that info, i have one question as i read these. when u say that only vista x86 and x64 can do the switchable graphics, does that mean windows vista ultimate for the thinkpad t400 would not be able to switch graphics (ultimate for thinkpad t400 is a 32bit i think)?

All versions of Vista can do the switchable graphics. XP, 2K, Linux and other OS will not have that support and must use the graphics option set in the BIOS.

    hi JaLooNz,

when reading a german review i was quite surprised when the author stated, that the T400 has a transflective screen. it says, that when ur under sunlight u can turn off the backlight as the refllected sunlight is used as backlight. he also states that therefor the T400 is quite readable outside, even though his review unit didnt even have LED but CCFL. he made a picture outdoors with backlight turned off:

it would be nice if u could confirm or deny that statement. thank u!

I am using a CCFL screen... AFAIK there is no way to completely off the backlight, and to my knowledge there is no transflective screen available on the T400 line. My best guess is that the screen is readable if you have a LED screen and have turned it to max brightness.

Maybe you should take a look at the review on this site... I believe the reviewer has made exactly the same comments, and take note that the reflection is the sunlight glare / reflections instead.
