I just got my new T400 today and here is what I think of it:
    1. The build quality is pretty solid, the reported flex on the chassis around the dvd drive, pc card slot and palmrest is there but honestly, unless I am physically trying to squeeze the chassis, I have no problem with it. Very sturdy machine.

    2. The much maligned keyboard flex of the T400 is there on the left side but like I said earlier I don't mash the keyboard or look for flex, and I am typing on it right now and it is very pleasant to type on.

    3. The screen is bright and I love the matte screen, never ever going to buy a glossy screen again.

    4. Performance is amazing, runs Vista 64 with screaming speed. P8700 and 4gb of ram pretty much speak for themselves.

Overall all I think I will be enjoying this laptop the next couple of years for college. I am definitely satisfied with my purchase. Aside from certain issues about the build, it is a very good machine.

I do have some questions about my new toy:
    1. I am new to Vista and the UAC is already annoying me. Should I disable that?

    2. The camera has this brown/yellowish tint to it. I took off the small plastic film off and it still has that tint. Is this normal?

    3. Could I get a new keyboard to get rid of some of the flex? The panel with the Thinkvantage button does not fit the whole way and kind of pops out in between the blue button and the power button. I do not think that's normal.

Congrats! Now you can make fun of your Apple-loving classmates while their Mac notebooks leave burn marks on their legs.
    Windows 7 screams even louder!
IMHO, get used to it. It’s not that annoying, as most everyday functions don’t really rely on it.
Not sure of this—don’t need a camera.
The T61 keyboard I have is FLAWLESS.

    Congratulations :)

1.- I advise disabling UAC for the first few days when you are installing all your software and moving data (it could tend to get annoying then), but re-enable it again when most of that's complete for better security. It does come in handy.

2.- My camera does not have that tint, although some other people have reported that. I think there's a quick and easy way you can recalibrate it by cupping your hands around the camera while it's on, but I'm not entirely clear on it.

3.- You can first try to call Lenovo and ask for a free keyboard replacement because of poor fit. Maybe also suggest that they send you a T61-model keyboard, which had a more solid metal backing that eliminates flex. If they do not send you a T61 keyboard and you want to fix the flex, you can get a T61 keyboard off of eBay or this forum's marketplace.

yes I would say disable UAC, it is quite annoying to me. Do you have to pay extra for the T61 keyboard?

Unforunately, thats normal as well. The panel is quite flimsy in the first place and as a result pops up in the middle where there is no support or buttons to pull it down.

really? the panel really pops up like that? i guess i can still call them and try to get a replacement keyboard. not disappointed or anything, just kind of weird that it sticks out like that.

also, there seems to be a slight gap between the ultrabay drive and the laptop itself, does anyone else have this?
