They said on its way to Austin, but had no more specifics. It's not that far of a drive. I also don't know if they have trucks (assuming ground) going straight from Louisville to Austin? Previously all my UPS shipments rolled through Mesquite, but being that Louisville is a hub, maybe they have a direct.
I asked if I could go pick it up at the Austin sort center (only 10-15 minutes away), and the lady said if I see it arrive, I can call and as long as they get the message before it gets put on a truck for delivery I can. If it comes in during the day, I will probably do that. I really wanted to head into the office tomorrow for a meeting.
-
I called last Friday about holding it at the depot for pickup and was told there was a "lock" on the shipment and that they had to make at least one attempt to deliver to the address.
-
Yeah she said I'd have to catch it pretty early otherwise it'd get assigned to a truck and once that happens it can't be held at the depot. We'll see....
-
Well UPS officially sucks or at least their tracking does. Meanwhile my laptop is still in a tracking black-hole, UPS just knocked on my door with my laptop. It still says it left Louisville.
Oh well, at least it's here. -
Mine is in the hands of a neighbor.
And so our dramas end. Now for the fun
Good luck to all. -
Yeah already got my new HDD in. I specifically dropped the WAN card, yet there's a Cingular SIM in my notebook. Everything else so far looks accurate, but I was surprised to see a Cingular 3G SIM in my notebook.

I might get some criticisms for this post, but here it goes.
This is the problem with the information age or people with unrealistic expectations.
You're only going to drive yourself nuts refreshing the tracking web page and fabricating elaborate stories about the logistics of Lenovo's poorly done paper work and UPS's inefficient shipping methods.
This is a 6 page thread on how a laptop was shipped free from China departing on Oct 29th and arriving on Nov 3rd. The shipping estimate was pretty accurate wasn't it?
Basically, hopefully your eagerness was due to wanting to enjoy your new laptop and not attempting to condemn a company based on solely on the speculation of internal business practices. -
Everything is speculation and fortunately my laptop got here on time, but I had every expectation it was going to get here tomorrow which was going to cause me two personal issues: 1) Can't leave house to vote. 2) Can't go into the office. Albeit, I am willing to blame UPS for more of my anguish now.
Like I said, I leave for Japan on Friday and I needed my laptop by really no later than Tues-Wed. I gambled when I ordered it, but when the customs problems came up and I found other threads (not PC related) saying that the particular message I got is a typical 5 business day delay, I got upset because I ordered this conditionally upon me being able to receive it by a certain date.
Of course you are right, this dialog was too long, but it was kept alive by inconsistencies on UPS' system. I think by page 2 Lenovo was removed from the equation. I think there is justification for Lenovo having internal issues with customs based on other complaints on this and similar forums, however, I can say with certainty that UPS (in my experience) has had issues (this isn't the only time). When I acted shocked and told the driver that the tracking says it's still somewhere between Austin and Kentucky he told me that the tracking system is pretty unreliable and it shouldn't be used as any sort of guarantee. Now granted, nothing is 100%, in 2008 that's pretty freaking SAD. Both of my past two companies have worked with FedEX and we found their system to be reliable. Sure there were delays due to weather from time to time, but it was always very clear via the tracking system and they'd properly reschedule deliveries.
Anyways, enough of my rant... -
With the volume of orders that manufacturers are taking, of course there are some orders that end up botched and those affected tend to be more vocal than those that are pleased.
Are these companies perfect? No. I'm not saying they do everything right, and yeah it sucks to be "that guy" that falls through the cracks.
See, your experiences with Dell have been pleasant, but there are many more that don't have favorable opinion about Dell.

That's just skimmed from the top. 2 month delay and waiting for an Inspiron 15. Estimated delivery was Sept 4th. Are you feeling any better yet that yours came a day early?
Dell Laptops even have their own subforum for shipping and CS issues stemming back to 2004. Your argument that Dell has a better process may hold true for you, but others may have a different opinion.
Lenovo doesn't have a problems subforum so the main forum can end up cluttered with complaints. So when people come to the Lenovo forums they may read it as "dear god, why does Lenovo have so many issues".
Maybe it time that a subforum for Lenovo issues should be created. I for one am tired of reading all the negative thread titles littering the forum.
My Notebook is in Alaska, what UPS Domestic Equivalent do they use?
