My Product description doesn't match (searching by Product number)

    Hi,

I bought Thinkpad X200s on eBay - new, not used. I received it sealed with tape, not opened, hw configuration was exactly as was described/ordered. The numbers on the box are the same as on the notebook.
But when I go on Lenovo site, and check it by product number, I got different result.

My real HW configuration (only what differs):
HDD: 128 GB SSD, 6 cell battery, don't have UltraBase.
    (the rest is ok)

This is what I got from Lenovo site, searching by Product number (7466-3GU):
    ---
    Product: ThinkPad X200s 7466-3GU

    Original description: SL9400(1.86GHz), 4GB RAM, 160GB 7200rpm HD, 12.1in 1440x900 LCD, Intel 4500MHD, Intel 802.11agn wireless, Bluetooth, Modem, 1Gb Ethernet, Secure chip, X200 UltraBase+CDRW/DVDRW, Fingerprint reader, Intel Turbo Memory, 9c Li-Ion, WinVista Business 32
    ---

When I called on Lenovo support, they told me, it's strange, and that shouldn't happen. I asked them, to check it, if they will get the same result. And they sent me the same product description, as on the Lenovo site. So HDD, battery, and UltraBay differs.
Now I'm affraid, what if I'll have any problem, if they will accept it, or they will tell me, it's not cowered by warranty, because there are not original parts.
Is this a problem? What should I do now?
    Thank you for your suggestions.

    Karol

The item must definitely have been re-configured...

I'm also quite worried about ordering from eBay, although the prices are attractive. Also, I wonder whether buying from eBay now will qualify us for the free windows 7 upgrade.

    I guess not?

    HMM...

You got an 128GB SSD instead of a mechanical drive (presumably for the same price), and you decided to return it? Interesting..

whats more interesting albeit common is a seller selling something thats not as advertised.

who cares about the SSD in this case anyway. The cheapest 128gb SSD (if its new even) is like 250 bucks. the ultrabase with the optical drive runs up to 300 dollars. his deal was also shafted out of a larger capacity battery. plus the seller apparently advertised the unit as new. anytime a seller tries to lie or cheat you walk away and close the door for future business

Those are all user-replaceable parts. In other words, you're still eligible for warranty if you decide that you need repair.
It's a waste of time and saving for you to send the machine back (provided that you receive an appropriate price for the laptop without Ultrabase).

that will all depend how much the person actually paid for it, how much delivery cost will be to return it, and the buyer's personal economic utility for something brand new. after hearing stories about ebayers buying from the lenovo outlet and reselling at close to brand new price on ebay but slightly lower, then its almost like a scam. for example it would really suck for the buyer to pay close to the full price that will otherwise cost as a brand new unit from lenovo directly, but paid to an ebayer, and find their product had been opened and parts replaced yet advertised/sold as if it was new. if the buyer feels unease about the product they recieved just return it.

No, you don't understand me. I got what I ordered (I ordered 128 GB SSD). But because the box was previously opened, possibly the laptop wasn't new (as advertised), but refurbished one. That's why I decided to return it.

As useroflaptops pointed out - "...plus the seller apparently advertised the unit as new. anytime a seller tries to lie or cheat you walk away and close the door for future business..."

How do I know, if the battery, and the SSD is new?

It's also possible the seller got the machine, and sold the UltraBase separately to make another couple bucks.

ThinkPad configuration can have so many tiny details, that I'm reluctant to buy one on Ebay. Tricqster, I think you did the right thing, and I agree with UserOfLaptops as well --but not as much in features, (it sounds like you got what was advertised) but that you may have been sold a machine that wasn't new.

What with the numerous discounts from Lenovo (if you figure out how to jump through the hoops) I'm not sure I'd buy anywhere but through their new sales. Also note that if you call them, some reps are really willing to deal --When I told one rep that I wanted to cancel my Outlet order and order new instead (once the Outlet order had fully canceled) he offered me a 20% discount if I'd order right then and there with him.

It's quite clear that CSRs have sales goals they need to meet. I'd be willing to bet that they're monthly, and that there may be bonuses or incentives as well. So it's also possible that calling later in the month to order will result in a better deal, though I cannot speak from experience on that one.

Man, just the hassles of taking those pictures are enough for me not to deal with those ebay sellers. I took a look at the pictures; the first one, the yellow warning sticker "...electrostatic..." is the same that came with a new palm rest wrapped in foil I received from IBM as service parts. Maybe the seller got some part of the laptop that way.

By the way did you give the seller a rating?

No, I didn't. After I received this laptop, and realised, that there can be something wrong, I decided to wait. Maybe this is why he accepted the return - he didn't want to get bad review. Then, after refund was done, the "Leave the feedback" went away.
