I ordered 1gb of DDR2 (PC4200) ran from Newegg. The T43 is coming with 256mb. I was going to purchase 2 sticks of 512mb ram but for less than the cost of those 2 sticks I purchased a 1gig stick instead. I've got the 1.73 Dothan and I know that dual channel should be enabled on this system. I'm not using this laptop for any gaming purposes.

Will the 1gig paired with the 256mb void the dual channel capability? Eventually I will add another gigabyte of ram. Today 2 gigabytes of ram on a laptop seems like overkill. Will the system suffer because of different amounts of ram in the two memory banks?

Both have to be the same for dual channel to work. I doubt you'll notice a differnce.

    Zazoz,
Have you modified your T42? 7200RPM hard drives are not standard equipment.

Mine came with it. If you look up the specs on my machine, 2379-R9U, you'll see it came with the 7k60. It is offered on some pre-configured machines and is an option for the configureable ones. They are not offereing them on as many pre-configured notebooks right now because the drives are in short supply. Look on PriceGrabber, $200 is low offering for the ones that are in stock. Hard to believe they were going on Dell last Christmas for like $125. They are starting to offer the 100GB 7k100s on T43p machines.
