Nice review.

Excellent - i really like reviews that balance factual information with disclosed personal opinion. And if you do digital photography, you would be able to tell right off the bat if the LG screen were tolerable - and it looks like it's working out for you.
I'm really hoping the QC is tighter for the T61, because I'd love to get back into Thinkpads...

I suppose I also should have disclosed I'm red/green color blind but whenever I say that people really think I totally can't tell anything, my color perception is less than "regular" people, but most people will find I can make a good picture (see attached for an "OK" example), and I def know when the color on a monitor is bad... believe me I notice. Its not IPS quality, its kind of flat, it would need to be profiled to be any good for real photo work... but I don't intend to do any major processing on it, (at least not on that screen, I might use it on my desktop monitor though for some batch work as the CPU is faster...) Edit all that said: if it were my only machine, I would make it work, and its certainly good enough for proofs on the road. You may notice Adobe lightroom is open on one of the laptop pictures.

I also have a review submitted to NBR awaiting publishing. My review is about the same as yours in terms of opinion: solid and great. Did you upgrade to System Update 3, or did yours come with it? My T60 WS is the same as yours, except I have the NMB Keyboard, I didn't opt for the N, have a 100 GB 7200 RPM option, and the 9 cell battery option as well. The RnR/SU were both very outdated when I got mine a few weeks ago, and I removed RnR since I use Acronis True Image. SU2 was installed, so I went to SU3, and let the updating do all the work.
I am surprised at the wireless issues. I didn't have any problems with mine.
You should try undervolting using NHC / RMClock. May be able to extend your battery life even further... -

It is common. It doesn't happen at all if every unless you change power states while it is on. The best I could do to reproduce it was reboot. Hibernate (all AC plugged in), pull the AC out after its off, bring it out of hibernation. More often than not that would cause the issue to occur.
I think the management doesn't want to publish 100 T60 reviews so we will see what they do, when I wrote in Feb they told me to proceed. Shrug we will see.
(what I am trying to say is I went days without it happening the first time... and then it seemed like a normal wireless glitch, it probably doesn't happen with all Intel stuff thoug the thinkpads thread implies it does..., anyway you can try my test if you like, but even if it doesn't do it it wouldn't prove anything...) -
I was told either this or next week mine would be published.
By the way, is your wireless switch a little loose? aka, you can barely touch the wireless switch and it wriggles a little bit? It's one minor detail for me, but just worth noting =[ -
To answer the other things, I'm not sure I might check into that later, but I'm not into the whole non-stock settings anymore. I mostly use it at my work and at home plugged in if I had needed really long battery life I would have gotten another ultraportable. I still have my 300M is I need that for some reason.

Yeah, I'm very picky and particular about details. My iRiver Clix 2 GB MP3 Player I had to return and exchange three times, because the 1st one had a dead pixel in the corner, the other one had a slight scratch on it, and the third one had a broken connector.
-
Oh man you would have tossed my 300M in the trash about 2 years ago.

nice notebook there!
1. no wwan... i have on but don't use it. i hate the antenna sticking on the side of the screen.
2. so thin...
3. go XP! kill the competitionjust kidding
hey wait... i noticed in the right side of the led panel "lenovo T60". i don't want thatmakes me sad about it.
oh well, maybe i'll get used to it in the future after i get a new notebook. i just got shocked comparing my Z's panel without the "lenovo" thingy
with that price... NICE -

A very helpful review. In fact, T60 8744-5BU is the model that I am going to buy.

very good review! I am on the look for a thinkpad within the next few months so this is very helpful!

I've been very satisfied so far with my T60 WS that I got from Buy.com. The screen is very bright and has good color depth. TN panels will never be able to compete with an IPS but notheless the LG I have is one of the best I've seen. I'm waiting to upgrade it with another gig of RAM once Outpost.com finally ships my 1 gig Kingston module. My battery life could of been a little better if I had gotten a model with the 9 cell but the 6 cell isn't too bad and I'm normally on AC anyways. It's also nice not having it stick out of the back of the laptop or the added weight.
