I put my bag on a chair (2.5 feet high) and put T61 in it but did not zip the bag. Then did something else. Came back and took the bag and then the T61 fell off the ground (wood floor). After that, opened T61 and everything works fine.

it's kind of hard to fall off the ground, hehe--anyway, thanks for the test results, good to know!
-
Keep us posted for more results like water damage, fire etc.
-
uh....
I'm not sure if I ought to congratulate you or console you
In any event, glad it worked out alright. Durability does count!

Can you try dropping it from 6 feet on a concrete floor?
And post the results....
-
you can try your own thinkpad too

I accidentally dropped my BenQ laptop that was in my messenger bag from ~7.5 feet high and nothing happened. I'm sure a T61 could do that as well
.
-
damn 7.5 feet up in the air? wtf were u doing?
-
Any cosmetic damage from this mishap?
-
There could be some delayed damages...
-
It was on a shelf at work and somehow fell on the floor
.

Damage was already made and I suggest you check with Lenovo for inspection and repair possible damage ASAP. I have an notebook falling once, and there was a slight noticeable crank on the lid cover. It became a big crap later and I have to change the whole lid cover.
-
Yeah, I am waiting for Lenovo to send me more models for tests
-
Dont worry, hanbaoquan1518 here will be glad to lend you his thinkpad!
-
Yours is very welcome too
My T61 survived the first impact test
