Yesterday night I was watching movie just fine but this morning, the screen only displays black and white.
I tried changing the driver, didn't help.
I tried disabling the fx570m device, my color is back but i have only 640x480 resolution.
I tried booting into safe mode, my color is back.
Every time I boot into vista, the color stays for like 5 secs, and then it just suddenly turned into gray scale.
I need your help! Please!

Your GPU is probably faulty.
I think you have the G84 core right?
Because that has a known fault. -
Geez, they are dropping like flies...
-
Try a system restore to make sure it's not driver related
Colors might have to do with ICC/ICM profiles
But since you have an Nvidia card there's a high chance of that failing... -
i checked the core, its G84M
known fault like what?? -
Another issue, my machine is always very very HOT (mostly when i play games, even war3 and D2, they aren't using a lot of horsepower but... i don tknow). i can fry eggs on it. The fan is working, i can feel the hot air coming out.

Heat + G84M = dead GPU.
The BGA solder cracks, you get a bad connection from the chip to the motherboard.
Google "G84 and G86 fault".
Extend your warranty and get ready to send in the notebook for repairs.
Do you have warranty? -
I have warranty, i bought it 2 years ago in with a 3 year warrant
-
Damn it.. they are all bad.
if the repair guy change it to another G84M, it will eventually go bad too -

Unless you keep the temp under 60C (which is hard to do).
Maybe when they fix the notebook, sell it. -
no way it could be kept under 60c.....
-
when i bought this laptop, i thought it will last for a pretty long time.....
-
hopefully you got warranty

60?????!!! I thought it was 70, damn. They are really all failing at around the same time though, surely not coincidence. -
Damn, its happening more often nowadays. This reminds me that I need to sell my T61 ASAP while there's still some warranty left.

I've still got a warranty till next December, if mine fails between then i'll just get it serviced and keep using it, surely i'll have a new ThinkPad by then.

I think in one of the articles about our beloved nvidia GPUs I read that in particular downclocking the memory clock should "somewhat" help (anybody saw that, too, or has the ref?).
Anyway, that's easy to do and hardly impacts the performance. -
Thank god i've only paid 450 dollars for my R61 with NVS 140m
