This laptop, well, how can i say this nicely....SUCKED...
-The screen was HORRIBLE. Transparent vertical lines everywhere, horrible colors/viewing angles, just a really bad display. Worst I have ever seen, even compared to HPs dells ect...
-The fan was making clicking / high pitch noises !!! Faint but they were there. I throw in my Vertex 2 60GB so it's silent, and all I hear is "click click clunk screech...." and all I see is a terrible screen....
-The thinklight button doesn't do anything (because the edge doesnt have it !!!). They are so lazy, they didn't even take off the thinklight function...
-The keyboard / touchpad was nice though, however the whole laptop feels cheap since its plastic and missing the magnesium / rollcage ect....
-The battery life / performance is great. 16s boot with SSD and feels fast.

My verdict: The Edge e420 is NOT A TRUE thinkpad. It is build cheaply and suffers from a horrible screen.
However, it is GREAT if not defective and good bang for the buck.

I'll be getting the X220 or I may wait for something else like a X320 (dear god please let it happen)

Well, even if its not on par build quality wise with big brothers from T/W/R/X(12") series, it should receive the same service from Lenovo, thats probably the strongest point in marketing these laptops as ThinkPads.

Yeah the E420 is not a true thinkpad, it is not built with the durability of a true thinkpad, but for the price, I like my E420, the screen grew on me, I am not saying its a great screen but it is matte and I am used to it. I like matte screens, glossy laptops look weird, but of course give me a glossy screen laptop for a day and I will be used to it also. My fan and hdd seem quite to me, I am most impressed with this laptops ability to dissipate heat and remain quiet.

Ya, Edge has departed completely away from ThinkPad. Shoulda knew that before you pulled the trigger. Some people prefer the glossy screens, but then I advise them to go outside and attempt to use their laptops. Also being that cheap, the first thing to go is screen quality. Many new screens are "LED" but are WLED so have awful color reproduction. Some are below 30% color gamut, most are blue biased so green/red looks awful.

For the price of a loaded Edge, you can get a base x220i..

After dealing with the horrendous Ideapad support I can agree, whole-heartedly, that the Thinkpad support is worth its weight in gold.
