    Hey guys,

Since I bought my W520 this (or is it last? haha) spring, I have noticed two defects--one of which I am wondering if the Lenovo warranty covers.

The first problem is annoying yet somewhat minute. I have come to notice whenever my screen displays black or dark colors, a white border appears in the shape of a box. The area corresponds with the location and size of the fingerprint reader. (This is poorly explained..if i can get it to appear on camera i will try to post it here).

I was wondering if this is fixable/covered by warranty.

My second issue is with the computer's speakers and sound card. About two months ago, my speakers died (only made clicking noises) and was planning to go replace it this Thanksgiving. However, during these two months two other problems occurred. Both occurs using headphones or external speakers.

Problem A: sound fades in and out. Whenever I am playing music with external speakers or with headphones, every so often the sound dies out for half a second and then resumes. Occasionally, youtube videos will not have sound unless I skip around in the video.

Problem B: Volume increases drastically and some static can be heard. By increasing the volume up by one, only static can be heard. This only occurs (and rarely) when my computer is really hot.

When I turn in my computer to get fixed, will they replace the entire motherboard or just solder the sound card off? Or will they do something entirely different?

    Thanks.

I don't have a W520 so I can't offer much technical help, but if that's the problem as they identify it, they would almost definitely replace the entire system board rather than replacing just a particular chip on the motherboard.

You could ask them to replace the screen, but if they can't reproduce the problem (and in my experience it's easier said than done when it comes to their depot techs) they may not want to, the screen is a pricy part. Plus, who knows, maybe a new system board will take care of that issue?
