I can't remember if I posted this, but I wrote a review of the X200 a while ago, it had some typos and it has been about 6 months since I posted it originally. I finally added the pictures and images. If there is a big demand I can take better shots of the dithering. Long term 6 month use update as well, which is probably better than what you get in most reviews on the net... For what it is worth...

I think I removed most of the typos from it also.

Looks like I was wrong, it was 4 months. BTW comments are welcome on the review, if you have them.

Thanks for the review. It's always good to see different reviews for other points of view. I think you went over a lot of personal preference points, which is good.

I just got a X200 after a whole year of wanting one but not being able to decide to get an X200 for around $1000 or a netbook for less than $500.

Then a couple of weeks ago I could get an X200 for $800 and that sold me. So far I am very happy with it and glad I got this instead of a netbook. It's a little heavier and bigger but the performance is almost the same as my T61p other than the graphics. Overall the X200 is probably the best notebook I've had so far.

I do agree that the screen is the weakest point of the X200. I was prepared since most reviews mention this and I know from experience that the screens Lenovo uses aren't that great. My T61p screen isn't the greatest screen. The X200 is a notch lower in my opinion. The viewing angles aren't that good. I would rate it at below average. But it doesn't bother me too much as the screen is viewable.

If Lenovo used a much nicer screen I would be willing to pay a few hundred more for it if I knew it would be of high quality. It's sad when my 5 year old laptop has a nicer screen than my new laptops. :(

Yeah there is quite a long thread on changing the X200 screen out for an IPS. If you like glossy and have money and are comfortable with making such changes, def something to check out. The combination of glossy + cost has heretofore kept me away from it, I have IPS screens at work and home to plug into when I need to do graphical work.

If the mere fact of it being a glossy screen is holding you back, then you shouldn't worry about it. The glossy of the hv121wx4 panel is quite different from the typical glossy of the TN panels out there. I can use my laptop quite comfortably indoor without any significantly annoying reflection on the screen. Plus the bonus is that you can use the screen quite comfortably outdoor as well. Matte screens don't fare too well outdoor, unless you have a panel with really high nit (250nit or more would be my guess).

    Oh yeah, I didn't see that. :)
But it all depends on your luck. I just got a one-month-old digitizer-less screen for 60$ shipped.

Oh that would be fine, you may remember I tired to turn up suppliers a long time ago (just after I got my X200) but the cost for a real panel new was about 230 or something on that order. So I got a 23" IPS panel for my desk at work.

BTW: what laptop was it pulled from?

Thanks for the review. I pretty much agree with you on all your points. I love my X200 and think it is the best laptop I have owned so far, but the screen is disappointing. My T61p's screen was great. I had no complaints, but with the X200 I find the viewing angles to be very picky and I am constantly chaning the angle of the display.

A sager 12.1" laptop. You just have to look out on ebay for a while.
