I just received by X220 with SSD. The capacity shows 145 GB. What i ordered is 160 GB. My order says as below

(SBB INT160GB SLD STTDRV,SRLATA). Where is the remaining 15GB?

The user accessible capacity is 160 GB / 1.024^3 = 149 GB (due to first level over-provisioning for most current SSD), and the recovery partition would take up some space.

I am not an expert, but I don't think a user gets use of all the capacity on any hard drive.

    Enjoy the x220.

It's an old problem. Manufacturers think that 1GB = 1000^3 while computers think that 1GB = 1024^3. The difference between 1000 and 1024 isn't much, but when it is cubed then it becomes qjuite substantial and will get worse as Terrabyte storage becomes commonplace.

Get a regular HDD for storage, it's much more cost effective. A single SSD and HDD is a much better solution for majority of users as opposed to two SSDs.

Intel 320 Series 600GB (7mm, part number ending with 301)
    Samsung 830 512GB
    Crucial M4 512GB (7mm version)

Note that the user accessible capacity is always divided by 1.024^3.
