My X31 arrived from the reseller in the condition you see in the pictures. The case around the hard drive clearly has an issue with it bowing out. There are also two cracks in this area from the bow. You should be able to see them in the pictures. The reseller claims it just needs to be snapped in. I am afraid to apply any pressure in fear I can damage something.

Then send it back to the reseller for fixing, it's not your resposibility but his to send you a functional well assembled unit!

Please post the name of the reseller so that we can avoid him/her at all cost!

    Eritech
    https://www.eritech.com/index.php

This is not the only problem. They advertised it came with a one year IBM warranty and when calling IBM to confirm this they said 6 month warranty. Ray at Eritech told me to show IBM proof of purchase to get the one year warranty. I did then IBM came back and said Eritech would honer my warranty so there is nothing they have to do. I would return this thing in a second if I could find another X31 or X32 with internal bluetooth. I am thinking Better Business Bureau might need a phone call soon.

Rather than going through all the headache with complaints and counter-arguments, i'd just return it for a full refund i.e if they honor a return policy. Even if there is some warped up restocking fees, i'd still pay that just to get away from this shady company and pay a bit more by going with a known IBM reseller like Newegg, although personally, i'd go only with IBM/Lenovo direct and avoid all the hassle and headaches that come with resellers. IBM was known to give customers who buy from resellers a hard time regarding their warranty and support.

They are a refurb only dealer. Their website says, "Over the years Eritech has located sources of quality used, demo and refurbished (and sometimes even new) computer products. Below is our current IBM inventory."

    Did you read the website's T & C's?

"All products sold are in working condition.
All sales are final. Warranty is for repair only. No refund, exchanges or return."

Good luck dealing with these guys.

Send it back and ask for a new one, and if that isn't possible, let them fix it. Our law here gives us, consumers, the right to ask for a new one, warranty or no warranty (technical, the law says something like that a product has to function properly within it's economic lifespan). But, of course, I don't know how that works over there, where you come from.

Was it paid for with a credit card? If so, you might be able to do a chrageback on them for selling a broken item.

American Express is really good with buyer protection on this type of thing, if you bought with such a credit card you're in a lot of luck and it'd be easy to return and cancel on the card. One reason I like to recommend Amex (I used to work there too, but no loyalties, just find that the protection they offer is good).

of course, lots of places don't take Amex because of that
