Hello everyone. I just got my IdeaPad Y560 laptop today. Just now, like 15 minutes ago,the hard drive was making a clicking noise everyone 10 seconds or so. Now it has been reduced (maybe temporarily, maybe not). Anyways do you think, my hard drive is malfunctioning in some way? If so, I should probably think about getting it replaced right? Also, could it be normal? Thank you very much! My laptops's exact model number 0646-5JU.

A clicking hard drive is usually a failing hard drive. Run the hard drive diagnostic in System Toolbox. If you call and tell Lenovo this is happening, they'll send you a replacement hard drive and you can send this one back. Better to replace it now than load all your data and have it fail later.

Do you have a Seagate hard drive? Sometimes updating the firmware fixes excessive vibrating/clicking.

Backup your system using MS backup immediately onto a DVD.

Or could be just head parking noise....

Can you correlate the clicking sound with OS's idleing ? Just saying...

Do you know for sure that it is the HDD? I would download and run HDTune (link in my signature) and check the SMART data. If there are any glaring abnormalities, you may have a bad drive. If not, chances are, there's nothing wrong with your drive--you may just not be used to a louder drive.

If you run HDTune, it will tell you the manufacturer of the HDD and the model code. If you could provide that, users can probably help you out as well.
