Hello,
I am the owner of a brand new Thinkpad Z60m and I am very happy. Almost very happy, I coud say, because my beautiful machine makes noise when playing cds...a lot of noise!!! I mean it, I think it can be very disturbing for my classmates...everything in this machine suddently starts to make noise- the fun is running to hel, the mechanism screams...I am dissapointed...! there is something I should know or that I should do in order to remove this noise?
One more thing, I saw the Lenovo notebook N100 with dual core processor, 1.66ghz being the only available model know in norway now. I was very close to buy that model instead of Z60, it gives a lot for the money but even though it is a good build laptop, it looks cheap beside other Thinkpad models. But then I was thinking that it is prefferable to have a machine that works slower sometimes but is working anytime, than to have one which can give me troubles, and the "old" Thinkpads with Pentium M looks and feels one class above!
Can someone explain me if there is a very big difference between a 1,86 pentium m and a 1,66 dual core processor, and in which situations a 1.66ghz dual core can give noticeably better results than my pentium?
Thanks a lot!!!))

I obviously can't tell you without hearing it, but my guess is that's just how loud CD players are. They do make a lot of noise (compared to the rest of the laptop), but I wouldn't necessarily blame the computer. And if there is something wrong with the cd player, you can just get it replaced, right?

In addition to Jmmmmm comment you can also read through the reviews of the Z60m on this site. The reviewer does mention about the CD-ROM drive on Z60 being particularly loud.
If you're annoyed by the fan noise I recommend you read through this article. It details every possible step to fix Thinkpad fan noise problem and includes a link to a free tool that controls fan speed (make sure you read carefuly the instructions should you decide to use that tool)
