Ouch... Just got a T60, and it seems to be a really nice machine, but I have one problem with it...

The PC speaker is insanely loud. The POST beep is enough to make the windows rattle and people dive for cover under the table... (And with that kind of volume, it's got to be a serious drain on the battery as well :D)

Is this normal? And how do I change it?

    Turn the volume down.

That works for the PC speaker too? Cool... Didn't seem to have much effect when I tried it but guess I'll just try again then. ;)

you mean the beep sound when it comes out of hibernation?

you can change that in the power options or in the bios as stated above

You can adjust speaker sound intensity in BIOS.

It is not a very welcome feature, i'll admit.

Turning down/muting the volume has no effect on it, you must go into the BIOS as others have suggested.

I'll be willing to bet that down/muting the volume has effect on it.... of course, that depends on what effect you're expecting. :D

Ok, couple of observations, now that I've played with it a bit more.

    - First, turning down the system volume does affect it. But it's so much louder than everything else that by the time the beeps become bearable, I've basically muted the sound card. I can stil hear the beeps (just less loud), but music, wavs, anyhing else? Not a chance...

    - Second, I can't find a bios option to disable it. Directions please?

    - Third, it's not just when going out of hibernation. It also happens simply when I'm typing fast (happened at least 8 times while writing this)
Only some key seem to trigger that though. d, f, g, h and j seem to be the big offenders. If I press a couple of those near simultneously, it beeps...

I haven't found a way to remove the PC Speaker beep, on notebooks or desktops. At least with desktops, you can yank the PC Speaker out of there.

I don't think that there is such an option...not that I have looked for...

The BIOS option is for that but the hibernation beep is not a problem.

That's basically means that you're typing too fast... yeahh, I know I have the z61m and the first my reaction was WTF...then I guess I put up with that.

The BIOS settings: Config->Alarm. Also you could use Lenovo Configuration and Control Windows app. There were also some settings (the same) in Lenovo drivers, cannot recall where, maybe there was a tab in "power options" in control panel.

Windows will use the system beep if the "default sound" is not assigned. Typical indication: the system beep is used when the master volume is adjusted with a mouse in the standard windows volume panel. To fix go to Control Panel -> Sounds and audio devices -> Sounds -> [Windows, default beep] and select some sound there.

Hmm, will take a look at it. Thanks

Hmm, didn't know that. Doesn't seem to work though. Just assigned a sound to it, and it still uses the nasty system beep... :(

Hmm, yea strange. My notebook and a desktop are behaving in different ways if this sound is set to none. My notebook does nothing and the desktop starts to use the system beeper.
