I finally got it from a friend. Sold it to me since he is getting a T410s. I hope he made the right decision :)

It's an amazing ThinkPad (light and thin)
I like the resolution better than my 12 inch box.
...just gave the x200 to my spouse (she liked it btw).

I will be using this primarily for web browsing and document editing (ms office).

    here are the specs:
    Intel Core 2 Duo SU9400 1.4Ghz
    Windows 7 Pro 32
    3GB Memory (Samsung)
64GB Solid State Drive Storage (Toshiba)
    Intel 4500M HD Graphics Card
    UltraNav
    Intel WiFi Link 5100
    Finger Print Reader
    Integrated Bluetooth PAN
    Integrated Mobile Broadband upgradable
    Display Port
    Built-in Camera and Mic
    13.3 WXGA+ LCD
    3 cell battery (SONY)

    Thanks.
It boots faster than my T410, feels snappy.

btw, I'm planning to install Win 7 64 bit and upgrade the RAM to 8GB (I got some spare Gskill sticks here).

and the speakers and sound it generated are way better than both my X and T.

^^^ :D I can tell you're on a roll. Yeah, boot is snappy thanks to the SSD. Screen is great, too, eh?

    Congrats.

yep, I'm really happy with this purchase. screen is better than my X200.

but, I have to hold upgrading my RAM to 8GB. Looks like the spare sticks(x2) I got are designed for Apple series (FA-8500CL7-4GBSQ - checked online).

Anybody here successfully used this type of memory sticks on their Thinkpad? Its says DDR3-1066.

I'd like to try installing them but would like to hear from other users first.

the apple series memory worked fine. Had to put back the 3gigs though since I have not upgraded the OS to 64.

I also noticed that the finger print reader on this machine is better than my T410. :) in terms of print authentication (biometric performance are both set to default setting).

You will def need the 6-Cell battery.(battery died to fast for me) I just Sold mine today on craigs. I think there is only a 3-cell and a 6-cell for the X301...I picked up an X201 because I needed something with a 9-cell. You could also use the Optical drive for an extra battery as well.

if you need long battery time, then X301 is not going to be best laptop for that.

I already have the 6-cell, I might check the Optical drive 3-cell battery and order one.

that's true, I opt to use my x200 when mobile. (my spouse wanted a bigger screen, so i gave her the T410 :) )

I came really close to picking one of these up when Lenovo was having their final sale on them. That 13.3" 1440x900 screen was very enticing. Sweet machine, no doubt.

Congrats on the machine. I also have an X300 like yours, and I'm quite happy with it. Performance is good enough that I'm not complaining. Only HD Youtube can sometimes stutter a bit, but since yours have hardware acceleration that should be a non-issue.

Battery life can be long if you buy the optional Ultrabay battery, then full charge capacity is 67Wh.

I could be wrong, but I don't think there is a media bay battery available for the x301...the bay is just too thin.

yes, lucky that someone upgraded his unit and decided to offer me his x301 for a fair price. :)

There is -> Lenovo Support - ThinkPad Battery 49 (3 cell), ThinkPad Battery 49+ (6 cell), ThinkPad Battery 50 (3 cell bay) - Overview

Will be ordering this one FRU 43R1966 for IBM ThinkPad

Just checked the outlet, it's way cheaper than Thinkpad parts.com.
I am tempted to order one now. (my plan is to get it after the holidays).

    Thanks.

I love my x301. It takes a beating in my messenger bag to and from school and lasts anywhere from 6-7 hours with the 6-cell and 3-cell bay battery. I rarely have to look for an outlet. I replaced the original Toshiba SSD with an Intel 160GB and the speed increase is noticeable. Hope you love it as much as I do!

Definitely, I have already upgraded it to 64bit. I haven't decided yet if I am going to put 8GB RAM on it or just stay on 4gigs (no paging file).
