    Hi
    Uk based.

Im looking to replace my T420 i5 for a another Lenovo machine that can do 32gb Ram.
I use my laptop for Music Production (DAW) Mostly sample based (Kontakt).
    .
To make things easier, I'll some useful info that might help you help me.

I just bought a 43inch 4K which at the moment my T420 drives at 1080HD, Though nice, I intially bought it for real estate.
I'm not bothered if I don't get 4k Res but half the output would be nice!
I don't take my laptop out much, It sits on the table.
    I don't play games.

    Screen size doesn't matter
Don't need fancy graphics card, not essential for music software
Express Slot would be nice but not essential.
Quad core because its better?? i5-i7 don't care
Defintely a machine with no throttle-heat issues that could cause Latency spikes to my audio.

    I have been looking at t430/t440p/t450/t460/t470/t480 T550/W540/541

Finally I have been getting on fine with my T420 i5-2520 @ 2.50Ghz, 16gb, the tech is a little old now, had it for 8yrs.

Don't want to spend anymore than £700

    Thanks!

If screen size doesn't matter and its mostly on the desk, buy a desktop. That is much easier to control thermals, is probably cheaper, and you can customize it a little more.

    can a t430 do 32gb ram?

I know i will have to take it around, so mobility is important. By the quality of replies I'm getting, it wouldn't be a suprise if someone advises me to buy a car to transport the desktop.
I posted in notebook Lenovo forum because I want Lenovo geeks to fire off some suggestions on the basis of my post. If I could afford a p50 I wouldn't be asking in this forum. But thanks for your time.
    Kind Regards.

Any of the newer thinkpads with the quad core mobile processors should be a worthwhile upgrade over your current setup. They can support 32GB of ram. My biggest concern is I don't know how great their DPC latency is, it's something I've never really looked into but know it can be an issue when you're working with music. Even a quick google search (sorry not much time on my hands) doesn't show a whole lot of DPC related info for the newer T series laptops.

appreciate that, I know shared graphics is better than dedicated for a stable system. Though I heard most gaming laptops are up for the job too.
If i can just choose between 3 contenders I would be happy.

    Ok so far I got

    1 Quad core = 32gb ram

    I think that's a good replacement for the T420.
