You're not going to hurt the battery, it will stop charging when it's full.

You might need programs, but without details about what you need I can't help. Look in the software forum and post there with more details about your needs.

I think IBM has a pretty nifty backup option built in, maybe someone else can be more detailed here.

All of the drivers are in the drivers folder on the C:\ drive. Not sure on the R50e, but it may also be possible to burn off the recovery discs as well which I would recommend.

hey friend, don't worry, the R50e is well protected by its lid -- don't sit on it of course (you'd probably crush it by doing that!) but pressing in or putting it in a bag where it's a tight fit will be okay.

zazonz is right, all your drivers are in "C:\drivers"(mine is R52 & is the same, I guess yours is there too) & as I did you can simply burn them on a dvd. But about touching them when they are closed, I didnt treat it that much gentely but I was careful about it & nothing happened. 3 days ago a kid preesed his finger on my screen & it became black under his finger & I jsut FREAKED OUT :( but thank god, nothing happened.

Have fun with your machine cause IBM is cool :buyIBM: ;)
