My laptop was booting up, then it would just hang and lock up...at first I thought it was a memory issue but then I figured, before buying memory, the laptop is like 4 years old so maybe it's a heat/dust thing so i tried to open it like a novice and couldn't. So i screwed everything back in and now I don't even get a picture.

Anyways, I'm giving up on it.

First, I'm going to buy a T61p in 14" standard (since it's better for looking at websites). Need to figure out what processor to get since I'll be running vista. I plan on getting 1 GIG (1 DIMM) and buying another 2 Gig chip from crucial or something. Any other tips on buying new besides using CPP code....?

Also, next question. What's the best way to get the data from my old laptop harddrive off of it? Do they make external laptop harddrive enclosures that would let me connect it to another PC via USB? If so, what type am I looking for specifically?

    Thanks,
    Chris J

If it helps any, the 15" has NVIDIA Quadro FX 570M (256MB Open GL) and the 14" only has 128MB of that.

The 14.1" model's graphics card is also crippled in that it only has a 64-bit memory bus as opposed to the 15.4" model's 128-bit bus.

You also lose the Firewire port and a media card reader in the 14.1" model.

I will get 14" due to size. And I move around a lot, also, just get external enclosure to move the data. Any CPU speed will do vista.

Go into more detail in telling us what exactly you did with your notebook when you opened it. I know you did more than just unscrew and screw it back on, for it to mess up after opening it up. Please elaborate so that we can better help you...

I have the exact same problem with my t42p laptop. just happened. contacted lenovo. i can't tell from the answers to your original question if there is an external media that can read the hard drive once it's removed. i need to access that data, but the laptop is completely dead

If you like standard proportions, just don't maximize your browser. Set it to 4:3 proportions on your widescreen. Widescreen is great for doing 2x portrait apps side by side.
