My one problem with the T61 series is the lack of an option for an integrated camera/microphone. I was looking for a durable notebook with all the travel features I would need, and the T61 seemed golden until I found out it wasn't offered. :|

From their order site (T61 14.1")

    Display type Help me decide
    14.1 WXGA TFT [Popular upgrade]
    14.1 WXGA+ TFT [add $30.00]
    14.1 WXGA TFT, w/ Camera [add $30.00]

Am I missing something? And all Thinkpads as far back as I can remember have integrated microphones. on the T61 model it's right up front on bottom-right of the track pad buttons.

As what some other threads have stated, the T61p is meant for performance, and I'm pretty sure that the webcam is meant more towards an enthusiast / consumer, rather than a professional. You also have to consider Lenovo's image that they want to project. A webcam is not used for business... at least most businesses. I can see where it may come in handy for, say, multimedia purposes but again most businesses have other venues of achieving that.

As for the mic, I am pretty sure all laptops nowadays come with one. My T60 has it. I'm pretty sure a T61p should have it.

The webcam I could go without. However I was unable to find anything citing the T61p even had an onboard mic.

I own a T61p and there is an on board mic present. There's the standard port on the left hand side for a plug-in mic and directly under the Function Key on the left hand side you'll see two small holes, that's your on-board mic.

Take a look at the T61p's review and the first image (click to enlarge) shows it.

I didn't go with anything. Trying to decide if IBM is worth the extra cash.

    Extra cash over what?

The main reason I got the thinkpad was because it was cheap compared to other laptops with similar specs. I also wish it had a webcam as long as its not really crappy. It can be useful for business like video chat/virtual meeting.
