    Got my corporate-issued T61 today. (Check out sig for details.) Going to stop and pick up some accessories (bag, port replicator, BT mouse, etc.) on the way home. Then tonight, I'll be busier than puppy with three peckers!

    I'm surprised your company issued you Vista instead of XP Pro.

    The corp still owns it but I pretty much have free reign as to how I want to configure it or run on it. Of course, the downside is that I have to be careful about "inappropriate" use (eg. midgets & goats porn, Bit Torrent) :p

    The first project on my list is to wipe it and install Vista Ultimate so that I can keep it corporate compliant (domain support) but use my TV tuner. I'm a total TV junkie when I have to travel.

    This will be laptop #4 in our house (split between Lenovo, Dell and HP).

    I have a very similar situation (see the TP in my sig)... Corporate issued but it might as well be mine until they get me a new one in a year or two...

    I assume he's using Vista for the same reason I am... because he was issued a machine w/ 4GB of RAM. I was in the same situation... I have T7500/4GB and would love to see this thing FLY with XP Pro/Media Center on it, but that would defeat the purpose of 4GB of RAM... And don't even mention XP x64 because it just stinks...

    Odd situation, really...

    ... not that I mind :D Long live the ThinkPad!

    I've been using Vista on a number of boxes (desktops and laptops) for over a year with no major issues - and a couple of these machines were seriously underpowered. However, I do "dumb down" the Vista UI so that it's running the "Windows Classic" theme. Yeah, it looks old school but it's snappy and doesn't get in the way of my work. I also like Vista's integrated media center functionality. The only downside is that even with 4gb of RAM, Vista x86 only sees 3gb (this is a chipset issue - not an OS issue). I may upgrade to Vista x64 at some point but I want to wait until I see more consumer apps being migrated to 64-bit.

    On the other hand, I still have an older Dell and HP laptop that my kids use which I'll keep on XP.

    FWIW, I just finished my migration from the M4 to the T61 last night - and as we speak (write ?) I'm wiping the M4 before I turn it back in.

    With the exception of a problem I had with my GemPC400 smart card reader, it's been a relatively smooth transition.

    * Bluetooth Mouse - $45

    * Targus Leather case = $49

    * Windows Movie Maker converting all my *.tivo files in 1/2 the time of the M4 while browsing Eva Langoria's website = priceless

    Just a heads up that most big box retailers do not carry laptop bluetooth mice in their stores which I found to be pretty surprising. You might have to resort to getting one at newegg. The Logitech v270 model is pretty decent.
