Ok so this is one of those very long posts about the user's experience dealing with CSR. Skip if not interested or irrelevant!

I have a T61p that I bought back in Sept of 2007 with the base warranty, which expired in Sept of 2008. In December of 2009 the laptop died and won't turn on. It exhibits the 1 long beep 2 short beeps symptom, which seems to indicate a mobo/gpu failure.

After some deliberation, I decided to buy the post warranty and get this thing fixed. It was either this or spending a grand on a new laptop. When I bought the post warranty I was told that it should be posted on the website in about 1 week.

That was last Monday. Today I checked and the machine is still out of warranty. It irritates me because I don't like to have to wait forever for Lenovo to update their system before I can send the machine in. So I decided to give them a call.

First call: the guy told me to hold 2 minutes while he looks up the info. Disconnected.

Second call: guy submitted a request for the back end team to post the warranty online. He said it will take several weeks (huh???) to process. But he didn't know how the process works, since he answered "I don't know" or "you'd have to call X" when I inquired about how long I am supposed to wait.

Third call: lady was explaining how they update the warranty status internally when I got disconnected.

Not sure if I have a crappy landline or something's up with the telephone system? But I hope they will get my warranty up soon so I can get the paperweight sent in and fixed.

I remember there was a thread about the T61p gpu failures on out of warranty machines a couple of months back. What did everyone who had that problem do to fix it? Did people just buy new laptops? I am at a borderline about having buyer's remorse (the post warranty). Maybe it'd have been a lot less of a hassle if I just bought a new laptop instead of going this route. On the other hand I don't like the idea of having a $1.5k paperweight sitting at home.
