okay, well when I first got it(begining of the summer) I could just put in a dvd, cd, etc, and it would read it fine. Now when I put in any type of disk, it simply wont reconize it. the green light on the side of the tray will blink, but nothing else will happen. I cant even hear the disc spinning.

Have you looked in device manager to make sure drive is enabled??

If I am not mistaken( I will know when I get mine, hopefully in a couple of weeks) the T61 has a hot-swapable drive bay, so also try popping the drive out and then back in/ re-boot T61/ check device manager again.

i removed the drive, then replaced it and restarted it. it will spin the disc for a second or two, but it still wont read it. the device manager says its properly working

The only other thing I would suggest is to do a microsoft system restore to a point in time when the drive was working properly, dont think that will do the trick, but it's worth a shot.
