I just purchased an R61 from circuit city. When I got it home, I noticed that a bunch of the specs listed on the website do not match the model I received. Online, the laptop was listed as a dual core 1.8 processor with 1 GB of RAM. The laptop was also supposed to come with a media card reader. The laptop I got only has a 1.5 dual core processor, but it has 2 GB of RAM. It also appears to be missing the media card reader.
I paid $1100 for the laptop, and I got a $150 mail-in rebate, so the laptop comes to $950 (not counting taxes). My dilemma is whether I should keep this laptop w/ the different specs. I like it a lot, but I don't know if I overpaid for the different specs. I don't necessarily need a powerhouse (obviously, since I was happy with a 1.8 processor), but did I get screwed with the slower CPU speed? Are there any other specs that I may have been screwed on that I don't know about? Thanks so much for the input.

for $1100, i think you can definately build a better one on the lenovo website.
be sure to use educational discount, or any current coupon codes.
you should return it, and get one online, unless you need one now -
Thanks for the advice - I think I'll return it and build one online. I have a few questions though regarding customizations, if someone could kindly help me out:
1) What is the 1 GB Intel Turbo Memory Cache?
2) What is a "Smart Card Slot" for?
3) Is there some type of general "educational discount" I'm missing, b/c I can't seem to find anything.
Thanks again for the help! -
When you go to the Lenovo homepage click education and then towards the bottom of the resulting page select the students and alumni link. Try this link: http://shoplenovo.i2.com/SEUILibrar...ty=usstudents&ConfigContext=StdAffinityPortal

Thanks for the help - worked like a charm.

Don't buy the turbo memory, you can get it for a lot less on amazon. And forget the smart card, just businesses use it for a identification.

How did you determine it has a 1.5GHz CPU?

Thanks for the info Tailic. From the little I read about the turbo memory, it seems that if there is any improvement, it occurs in Vista, and I plan on reformatting w/ XP, so I guess I won't bother with it.
As far as the CPU speed - I right-clicked on My Computer in Windows and also used Sisoft Sandra (a diagnostics tool) - both had it listed as a 1.5 GHz CPU. I don't know why circuit city's site has completely different specs (I've since noticed the model I got didn't have a firewire port, which the site had it listed as having). The model # matches, but the CPU, RAM, Media Reader, and Firewire port aren't consistent with their listing... -
What did the specs at Circuit City specify? The R61's on Lenovo's site are either 1.8 Celerons or 1.5 C2D's...

My thinkpad has the wrong specs!
