hey, this is my very first Thinkpad and its coming now... After several Sony Viao models I have decided switch to a more robust model and Thinkpads were the first choises. I have in my office several chinese collegues (it is like chinatown here) and they all use either no name laptops and/or Thinkpad. We work a lot with special softwares for the molecular biology, gene sequencing and complicated spectroscopic techniques and all coworkers say "it is better to have business machines like Thinkpads". During my last visit in Beijing I was surprised about seeing these "black monsters" in corners of Lenovo in electronic markets and this was the very first infection with Thinkpad thinkpadiodes T61 viruses...

I have got my thinkpad yesterday! After 3 weeks starting from order to delivery in Germany via HK, Korea Alaska, MD, Frankfurt it came safely and most importantly without german VAT and custom taxes! I thank you Mrs. W from the Zollamt for being so kind to me to make extraordinary exception!
My very first impression is "it is better that I imagined!" The whole build quality is quiet okay. The whole design needs to be refreshed/face lifted. I would call this design as "industry look". Concerning Windows Vista Home Premium, the OS is too fashionable for working horse. Technically, everything works well at the moment and I am still testing it from top to bottom.
The next task is to find suitable notebook sleeve for 14.1 widescreen with big battery. Any suggestions?

Several day after receiving my Thinkpad has gone. I have tested the machine through and through and what can be really concerned about this particular model is the display (as always in any of discussion) and the battery life.
Another "really big concern" is the built quality! My display is curve on edges. If you close the laptop you will see the curved plastic display cover very clearly and i am worrying whether rollcage will really work in that case (I would include some pictures later).

I bought almost the same as you but with xp with 3 years warranty I paid inclusive shipping 739 euro. This was bought in Finland. I hope Lenovo will see their price policies within Eu. I got good price...

It's supposed to be that way.

Yes, due to euro-usd rate it is better to shop in USA. I have spent about 1000USD for this laptop including shipping. In contrast, very same model costs about 1200euro in Germany...
